It depends on what kind of pc you have. Are you trying to connect to a desktop pc or a notebook? If it's a desktop, some have front USB connections (usually behind a little door), or else you have to connect it in the back. If it's a notebook computer, it's either on the back or the side of the notebook. When you look at the USB cable, just try to find the same type of 'insert' on your pc.

Hi, I try to plug my MP3 into one of my USB ports. Doesn't recognize it. 'Removable Disk (H:)' comes up in 'My Computer', but soon disappears.

There is a problem with your USB port
you should try getting them fixed which is a tough job, but you can try plugging your removable media into another USB port like USB ports in backside of the cabinet.
If you don't find any problem with your USB device then you must have been having problem with your Removable Media (Mp3)
If your MP3 Player is under warranty period then you can look for its repair (can be done if its out of warranty too, but it will charge you extra)
Solutions To work around the above issues, one of the below solutions could prove helpful:usb-device-not-recognized.jpg
  • Unsecure or Loose Connection
Unplug the presently connected USB device (if any). It is quite possible that the connection is not secure and has become loose. Re-plug the USB device tightly and firmly into the USB port. This is one of the most common reasons for an error in detecting a USB device.
  • Scan for Hardware Changes in Device Manager
Use the Device Manager to scan for new and recently installed hardware. From the Start menu, select the Run option. In the pop up box, type in Devmgmt.msc and then click Ok. From the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes. This will make Windows scan & recognize any new devices that are installed. Now, close all opened device managers and control panels. Now, follow the above step and see if your computer detects the USB device.
  • USB Power Management
Disable power management of the USB hub. To disable the power management on the USB hub, follow these steps; Click Start, and then click Run. Type devmgmt.msc in the popup box, and then click Ok. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers' node, and then follow these steps for each USB Root Hub that is listed. 1. Right-click the USB Root Hub and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Power Management tab.
    3. Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click Ok.
Note: If you perform the following procedure on a laptop computer, you may reduce the battery life.
Sometimes, simply unplugging the USB device and turning off the computer for twenty minutes and then restarting may solve the issue. If none of the above options have solved the problem, check the manufacturer's website for new driver information. It is possible that your drivers need to be updated. There could also be a possibility of hardware failure, which needs to be checked by a hardware expert

My External Hard Drive is asking me to format. Why is it and i currently have information on my external hard drive.

I guess you are using it thru USB...
This is a general issue with all external devices connected thru USB, many times the USB reacts to an external device as though they dont exist.

The best solution is to shutdown the PC remove the device from the external USB port clean the connection, the USB cable connector, USB port etc and reconnect.

This situation could also happen if you have dropped the device, any little shake/**** could make changes to the internal system of the disk.

Try using a different USB cable to connect it to the PC

My personal experience is..... USB devices should be used sparingly and for things that are not critical like (MP3, mobile, camera etc) I rarely use external harddrive thru USB, never to store critical data.....an issue ever with the disk the data is almost gone unless it's recovered by an hardware expert after opening the drive and thru special system/data recovery devices.
The last option is to format it again, many times my MP3 player has been funny and gave me similar read issue and I had to format it many times to be read again by the PC, so i learnt a leason from that......never to connect a harddisk from USB, it's better to have larger harddisk inside the PC and use some DVD disks to carry your critical data to the place of work....(they cost less also) if they fail just throw them and use a new DVD disk

Where do you plug in the mp3 player to transfer music?

You MP3 player will be supplied with USB cable. Attach the cable to the MP3 player and plug the other end of the cable into a computer's USB port.
The computer will see this as an removable device, you can then open this device and copy mp3 music files from your computer and paste these files into your MP3 player.

I can charge my mp3 player but my computer dosn't read my usb ports,do you know why?

If your Computer can read other Devices such as USB Memory Sticks, that means that the the MP3 Player requires some drivers or needs some software. If your Computer cant read any USB Devices, then you need to install the USB Drivers for your computer.

Exceeding power in usb port

You will have to disconnect some usb items first.

If you have a HUB then disconnect that and same if you have a usb printer.
That should let you then copy.

USB ports can only supply so much current and too many devices without thier own power will overload it just as you are seeing.

I have a problem. My HP towers plug in is broken an came out (where i plug in my mp3 player to charge it, or my web cam) I tried fixing it but its not going back in at all. Theirs no way i can fix it. Can...

You're referring to a USB port & there should be at least two of these, most towers have four on the rear panel. If there are no other USB ports, you can purchase a PCI card that plugs into the motherboard & provides the ports, again on the rear panel, but I'm sure that the ports are already there.

Usb port not reconizing mp3 payer

Have you tried to use any other usb devices in that usb port? If not, do so. If you have and they dont work, search for the motherboard manufacturer on the internet and get its driver updates. If you have tried other devices, and they do work, go to the mp3 players website and find out if you need a driver update for that mp3 player to function on your computer.
