Have you written or called them to complain? That should be your first course of action. If you don't get anywhere with them, tell them that you will report them to the Better Business Bureau.

After shutting down ibm lenovo r61 wireless will not connect to router until doing repair. are there any settings to look for

The reason why you need to do a repair is because the wireless router couldn't issue the wireless a IP address to the laptop at the time of booting up. This is a common problem.
Check the signal strength of the wireless card, if it is in the mid range move the laptop or reposition the wireless router so you get a better signal strength.
Also power off the wireless router, wait 1/2 min and power up the router again. This is a suggestion, do this once a month. The wireless router will get a new IP address from your ISP, and if someone locks onto your old router's IP address then it is no longer available to them when the router gets a new IP address.

My laptop is only 6 months old and will not boot up.

You will want to contact the manufacturer. They usually have a 1 year parts warrenty on your laptop. The most logical reason is that the mother board(Main PCB) has took a dump. You will want to read the material here: https://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx

Good Luck!

I cannot get my laptop to go wireless. My router is a LinkSys - the techs there say there is no problem with it. I used to have wireless prior to my computer having to be sent in to Gateway...the...

0) Be sure that your wireless router is working properly

1) Check your wireless card on your computer
See the status of the card
>>My PC>> right click Properties >> Hardware >> Device Manager >> Network

2) Check if your card (if it is PCMCIA Card) was installed correctly, if not installed again.
if you dont have the driver, get the driver of your card from manufacturer website (D-link, etc)

3) If your card is built-in check be sure that the power button is ON

4) Check if you have some or your wireless network available

5) If not renew your ip address

6) If you see the network, select your network and connect.

Let me know how it is going

No xp driver for wireless network card

Used a wired connection and go to manufacturer's website to get the relevant drivers. Copy them to a USB thumb drive and then install them to the Acer.

I think some computer store have a policy that they only change the items with included in there policy limitation. For example, if you need to return the item for refund. you need to return the item within 3 days after 3 days they charge you with 5% less on the amount of the item. and sometime for the defected item they only change it if the item is not more than 1 month only. Your computer bought 3 month already that's why they only received that but they send the item to the supplier for repair if repairable but if the item is totally defected that's the time that the supplier change the item. I hope my solution help you to understand the situation you have now.

Vertical stripes then system hangs

Check the cable to the back of the LCD. If it is moved even a little bit they can dislodge enough to cause this. It will not be able to reset itself until it is powered off then back on.

The cables will normally come loose after the lid is opened and closed so many times. It's not really a fault, but the cables have to be kept to an almost exact length because there is no room for extra long cables in there.

The other place to check is inside the laptop base where the cables connect to the motherboard/video card. They can also become loose over time.

Hope that helps =)

Wireless adapter in Acer 5610-4610 is gone suddenly

Few ideas here, but obviously these are tricky questions.

Uninstall all software related to the wireless NIC, and then uninstall the hardware in device manager. Shut the machine down. Turn the machine over and remove all the little doors and look to see if the wireless NIC is an add-in card you can access. If it is, remove the retaining screw and remove it. Reboot machine, let it boot up, log in, and then shut down again. Reinstall the wireless card and close everything up again. When you reboot, you *should* get the new hardware found message, if you do, install the with the latest drivers and then reboot, and then check to see if the device is working properly in device manager (no warning messages). If it does not recognize the hardware, check in device manager if it has somehow put it on the unknown device list. If it has, try installing the latest drivers manually for the device by using properties tabs on unknown device in device manager.

If the problem is that the devices won't recognise and install their own drivers, you have a different problem which HP or whomever should solve.

Note, too, that if the laptop included custom control software for wireless connectivity (Intel, I am looking in your direction), the card may not be recognized without it, so install that software again, too.

Hope this helps...

This sounds like a poor put together pc. If the DVD drive does not eject then either the dvd is faulty or the IDE cable and/or IDE1 connector on motherboard is not installed, try ejecting through my computer(right click on drive then Eject), if this works the button is faulty. The same goes for the TV Tuner card, again possibly a corrupt or non installed driver, try re installing mother board drivers and card drivers. This really needs to be returned as the pc is not fit for it's use.

Wireless Switch

From your description I agree, its probably a damaged switch. I never recommend anyone taking apart a laptop unless they are a mechanical whiz, have experience with laptop disassembly or can afford to break it beyond using. As far as turning the built-in wireless card on without the switch there might be a way. I don?t have a Compaq laptop to experiment with, however, my Dell Latitude BIOS settings has a setting to automatically turn on the wireless card at boot-up. Perhaps yours does too, during your laptops initial boot process get into your BIOS setup menu (press F2 or if that doesn?t work F10 keys). Look for an option relating to your built-in devices or wireless device. My Dell setting is fairly ovious: "Turn on wireless device". If you find a simliar option turn it on, reboot and look for the wireless adaptor. Another option may be to buy an inexpensive UPS wireless adaptor. You can pick them up on Ebay for around $30, not as spiffy as the built-in but probably a lot cheaper than paying a repair shop to fix a three year old laptop. Good luck.
