Ge profile 26 pfss6pkx Light comes on but won't get cold, no fan running

It doesn't cool
  1. Condenser coils
Make sure you dust off the condenser coils to prevent dust build up and overheating due to it overworking. Simply unplug and use a long coil cleaning brush to get rid of debris.
  1. Check seals
If your refrigerator door seal is broken, warm air is pushing its way inside the unit, thus causing it to not cool properly. Prevent this from happening by replacing your seal and keeping the cool air inside.
  1. Temperature controls
Ensure that your thermostat is set correctly, usually 38-40 degrees Fahrenheit.
  1. Defective condenser fan
When this fan is defective, cold air is prevented from flowing through the vents. It may require replacement.
  1. Compressor issues
Check if there are clicking sounds coming from the compressor as it tries to start. If there is a clicking, it is one of only two options, either the start capacitor or a bad compressor. A start capacitor is fairly inexpensive whereas a sealed system repair on the compressor is very expensive and often not cost effective. Refrigerator Repair Help Troubleshooting and Parts

No cooling in fridge or freezer. Unit has power - light goes on.

Hi greenhouse76,

Please check if the compressor is running. If it is running and the machine is not blowing cold air inside the freezer. You may have either a restriction inside the sealed system or have a leak in the sealed system and all the Freon has escaped. No Freon, No Cool. Not a DIY job.

In order for the machine to get cold at all, the motor has to run. If the condenser fan (fan by the compressor) is running and the compressor is not running then you have one of a few problems. Either the motor is not getting power and that's why its not running, or its getting power and the windings inside are shot and that's why it's not coming on.

When the condenser fan is running you need to check to see if voltage is getting to the relays on the side of the Comp. More often then not, these are the parts that go bad. First Check for voltage to the relays and see it they have 120 Volts AC. If so, check the pins on the compressor that the relays connect to. From this point you are going to need to remove Compressor Relay Cover the clip that holds the relay to the side of the compressor, then unplug them from it and take them off.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Not getting cold

you need to replace the ptc overload relay located on the compressors body,it isnt actually running right, and the compressor will be quite hot,do this soon otherwise the compressor windings will overheat and destroy the compressor

Refrigerator has a clicking sound and does not run

Replace the motherboard (part # WR55X10942) but be careful to check that the evaporator fan (inside the freezer) turns on when you power up the refrig again. A bad evaporator fan motor can take out the motherboard. If compressor starts with new board but not evap fan, unplug immeadiatelly and replace the evap fan motor to save new board.

I have side by side refrigerator model 106-52709-100. Light is on, I can hear fan running but no cool air in side. Actually, thers is no air coming in inside. What is the problem and how to resolve ?

Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running.
Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Moved refrig from one locatation to another power will not come on , pluged it in no power it will not start

If you laid the refrigerator down you will need to wait until the compressor oil settles back to the compressor. Check your outlet with a light and your circuit breaker. If it tried to start before standing overnight the compressor has to pump the oil first before the freon. This will trip the breaker sometimes. But if the lights are on inside and fans running unplug and wait a few hour. Hope that helps. Let me know if you notice something different. Thanks, Sea Breeze

How can I tell if my fridge isn't working?

Unplug the Ref for 15-20 min. take off the cover so you can see the compressor, then plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You should be behind the Ref so you can tell the difference between the fan running or the compressor.

The compressor should start and keep running.

The fan cooling the compressor should be running.

The fan in the freezer should be running.

You should feel cold air coming into the Fridge side from the freezer side.
