My Mercury outboard 135 hp from 1986 jumps from 1000 rpm to 1400 rpm. It is not the spark plugs or ignition spoils (Have disconnected each once at time and there is no difference) The twoo boxes are changed at starboard side. No changes! Is it the stator or the trigger or what? Please help me to resolve the problem! Mvh Sture in Finland

My main suspect here in a case like this is the reed valve ,its sits behind the carb and all 2 stroke engines have one ,if you remove this and its clean and sealing up ok then check the stator under the flywheel ,In the end i gave up with the 2 stroke engine and bought a 4 stroke engine and the amount of fuel i have saved ?? Under the flywheel on the top of the engine is a advance /****** mechanism and this could be sticking or siezed up as well

2005 mercury montego would not jump

Do not jump to conclusions about the PCM. That is a last resort. If you want to check if your fuel pump is working, remove the gas cap for the fuel tank and turn the key to the on position. Listen for the fuel pump to whir for 2 seconds. If you don't hear anything, it may not be working.
The codes you are getting are for your ignition coil (the thing that provides spark to your car). So it probably isn't fuel or PCM at all. You should test the coil with a multimeter to see if it is working properly. You can also check right at the spark plug wires by using a spark checker (I use a screwdriver).
If you don't know how to check for these things, check our youtube-- there are a million videos on how to check for spark in your car. Eric the Car Guy is the best.

If your car has coil-on-plug, you may need to replace one of your ignition coils. These are pricey so make sure you test them first.

My outboard motor doesn't idle at low rpm's, it cuts off when put into gear.

Could be several reasons for this, poor quality / dirty gas, restricted fuel line either partially blocked or pinched at some point come straight to my mind.
