Question about Western Digital 500GB My Book World Edition 500 GB Hard Drive

Mionet is not showing up

I have had this HDD for a month now, and until yesterday it was working good in my 3 computers, yesterday, I was using one computer, I was listening music on the HDD, and I had to restart the computer because I was installing something. When it restarted I opened iTunes again to listen music, and when I tried to play a song it told me, itunes can't locate the file, that has happened to me before, it was because mionet is not open yet, so I went to mionet to verify that it is open, and it recognizes the HDD, but, I could see the homepage of mionet and all my hard drives and folders, but I couldn't do anything because it said I was "OFFLINE". I restarted my computer again and the problem was the same. I went to my other computers to check if there MioNet was working and everything was fine. Today none of my computers can't open MioNet. After the log-in window, nothing appears, and the icon appears in the taskbar as it is running, but nothing appears. I have un-installed and installed MioNet several times, but nothing.

I have the exact same problem. Hope someone has an answer. Maybe the problem is with WD server?

  • Anonymous Sep 09, 2008

Have the same problem, only two differences:

    A) Date. Mine was working fine until Saturday, Sep. 6, 2008, in the middle of the afternoon.

    B) I had Mionet installed on several computers, and they ALL went bad at once.

This leads me to believe that it's some central problem with MioNet.

Their customer support doesn't work. That is, I can't log in even with the username/password that their password reset daemon sends me.

Also, I can't log in using their java version from the mionet.com pages.

In short, they are really, truly screwed up, and my patience is running out.

    Hey

    I have the same problem.

I bought my My book last summer. I have saved all my files through MioNet. In December I got problem to start MioNet. Yesterday and to day I have try everything.

Problem: I push the Start MioNet icon, new window, filling in my user name and password, new window show "Verifying with central server", and window staying for 30 sec., went down to task-bar and disappear. Nothing more after that.

I can reach my MyBook with IP address through explorer.

I have un install, shut down the PC, install MioNet from your internet site, at least 4 times and problem is still there.

My son has XP on his PC and software on his PC are new. We installed MioNet on his PC with same result. Before MioNet works OK on his PC too, before deleting and reinstalling XP.

To day i try my brand new work lap top and installed MioNet. The same problem her too.

I wish sombody can help my to reach all my files.

    Thanks.

I hae the same problem but have tried registering in my wifes name for another trial to Mionet and it works on everything but My Book. I think Mionet may be playing silly as I did not subscribe to the Premium service. I cannot alter or delete any of my files created with Mionet. Help required. Dave m

Hi finally got it soughted thanks to someone who actually helped at WD. Here is what he told me to do but you must register a new Mionet account with a seperate email address to get this to work:-

"Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support.

You will need to use Mionet to access any files saved to the drive from Mionet that aren't in the public folder. If you want to add the drive to your new Mionet account you will need to reset the association with the first account. Open Internet Explorer, type the name of the drive or the IP address into the address bar, press enter, click on the general setup tab, enter your old Mionet username and password, click WD Anywhere Access Settings, click reset and wait for the page to refresh. After the page refreshes go into Mionet, click file, and finally click scan for cameras and new devices. Mionet should find the drive and ask you to name it.
    Western Digital Service and Support"

So it worked and I moved all my files from MYBook onto another drive and then then uninstalled Mionet and then set up a share drive as per answer 1531 on WD technical section then copied all my files back.

The moral of the story "do not ever use Mionet and will I ever buy Westrn Digital again? "

    Regards Dave

    Hope this works for you.

SOURCE: Mionet is not showing up

You better use a program called Disk-Genius. this is partitioning software. if your drive, is recognised by the system.
you need to go into the bios, disconnect any other hard drives. and boot from cd drive, with disk genius. Or similar.

hope this may help;

Can't manage MyBookWorld 1tb we (blue rings)

The issue you are experiencing is an error on our servers. Our next version of MioNet should prevent and resolve the issue, but in the meantime you must complete the following steps to regain remote access to your My Book World (blue rings):

To create a new MioNet account, please use the following instructions:

Part A. Reset MioNet/Anywhere Access

1. Please open your web browsers and enter (without the quotes) "http://<IP address of My Book World>" or "http://mybookworld" in the address bar. The Shared Storage Manager web page will appear. The username and password it requests will be the same as your MioNet username, and the original password used for MioNet (if you changed your password on our website, it does not update the My Book World).

2. Once you have accessed the Western Digital Shared Storage Manager please select "General Setup", then choose "WD Anywhere Access settings". On the following page you will have three buttons to select: please click on the "Stop" button, wait until WD Anywhere Access status goes to "Inactive", then click the "Reset" button. Once the WD Anywhere Access Status goes to "Not Registered," (on older firmware, it will go back to Active), the My Book World has been properly reset. This will return the MioNet software on the My Book World to default settings. It will not harm your stored files.

Part B. Uninstall and Reinstall MioNet (on a computer located on the same network as My Book World)

1. Uninstall MioNet from one of your computers.
2. Insert your Western Digital installation disk or download MioNet from http://www.mionet.com/mbvista and launch the MioNet installer.

NOTE: You must use the installation disk or the link above to create your new account. Certain functionality related to the My Book World is related to the installer you use to register a new MioNet account. Failure to use the proper installer may result in the need to repeat this process.

3. Register as a new user. You will need to specify a new username and E-Mail address.
4. During the installation, MioNet should detect the now reset My Book World. Please add it to your new account.

Part C. Uninstall and Reinstall MioNet on your other computers

1. Uninstall MioNet from your other computers.
2. Install MioNet using the Western Digital installation disk or downloaded from MioNet from http://www.mionet.com/mbvista and launch the MioNet installer.
3. Register as a current user with your new account's information.

Please let us know what your new account name is and we will follow-up with additional information. We will also send you instructions on how to reset that account's password.

Mionet problem

Your account has something called "account bug"
You will need to reinstall MioNet on all computers, reset the My Book World, then attach it to your new MioNet account. You'll need to download the Blue-Ring My Book World version of MioNet here:
http://www.MioNet.com/mbvista
Then, to attach your My Book World to the new MioNet account (just select a new username when you re-install MioNet), follow these directions:

1. Turn off My Book World
2. Identify the reset button on the back of My Book World
3. Depress the reset button while restarting My Book World
4. Keep the reset button depressed for about 10 seconds after you see blue lights on My Book World

You should now be able to sign in to the Shared Storage Manager as admin/123456.

5. Please open your web browsers and enter (without the quotes) "http://<IP address of My Book World>" or "http://mybookworld" in the address bar. The Shared Storage Manager web page will appear.
6. Once you have accessed the Western Digital Shared Storage Manager please select "General Setup" then choose "WD Anywhere Access settings." Use the default username of "admin" and default password of "123456" (without the quotes). On the following page you will have three buttons to select, please click on the "Reset" button. This will return the MioNet software on My Book World to default settings.
7. From within the MioNet Client, go to File > Remove Computer. Locate the My Book World (WDStorage, MyBookWorld, or whatever you named it) and remove it.
8. If you do not see a new window from MioNet informing you that you have a storage device available, "Scan for Cameras and New Devices…" to detect the unit.

Cant connect my 1TB WD world edition to my linksys router

Your My Book World should not be formatted or you will lose all ability to access it through the Network -- it will simply become a hard-drive at that point. There is software installed on the hard-drives that communicate with your Router in order to obtain an IP and be available as a Network Drive. If the drive and the Router are communicating, you should see an IP in the DHCP list of your Router. It is possible that the My Book World is not setup for DHCP, so if it is placed in an alternate environment with incompatible static IPs, it won't be able to access the Internet or be available locally. You can try a hardware reset on the drive and see if it pops up in your Router's DHCP/Client list, at which point it should also appear locally and over MioNet (MioNet will need to register the device to an account before it will appear in MioNet, but it must detect the drive locally in order to attach).

1. Turn off My Book World
2. Identify the reset button on the back of My Book World
3. Depress the reset button while restarting My Book World
4. Keep the reset button depressed for about 10 seconds after you see blue lights on My Book World

Can't Access to MioNet, Can't access to WD Drive

It's a MioNet issue -- if you create a new MioNet account and reset the WD Anywhere Access/MioNet settings on the My Book World (accessible from the drive's interface on its http://ip or http://name address), you'll be able to access the drive again.

So here're your steps:

1. Reset the My Book World's MioNet settings (there's a reset button within the interface)
2. Uninstall MioNet (restart when it tells you to)
3. Re-install MioNet from the CD that came with your drive (restart again when it tells you to)

During this process it should find your My Book World and ask you to give it a name. Once you have completed the process, you should see the My Book World once again in your MioNet interface and be able to see the folders that are only visible when MioNet is running.

If you have any questions or want to speak with a MioNet Tech (I am one of them, my name is Laura), call our WD number at 1-800-275-4932 and tell them you have "Account Bug"

Do I need to purchase the Mionet yearly sub for $47.99?

The version of MioNet that runs from your Passport is called MioNet Key. It allows you to remotely access all computers you've installed MioNet on with your MioNet username, free for the lifetime of the product. Unfortunately it does not work in reverse -- you cannot access your other computers remotely or locally with MioNet unless you run MioNet from the Passport. The version installed on your computers will remain Basic versions unless you upgrade to Premium.

There is backup software that ships with the WD Passport called Memeo. This is NOT MioNet, and has a Serial Number that it requires in order to do backups. The Serial Number should be located on the bottom back of the leaflet that came with the drive on a sticker. The leaflet is printed in multiple languages, and unfolds to be fairly large. If you cannot find your Serial Number, you must contact WD Tech Support. You may find more information by registering your WD Passport on http://support.wdc.com.

Can't Access to MioNet, Can't access to WD Drive

Hi to all,
I just saved my files from my WD world book that used to run on mionet... all of a sudden then disk couldn't be mounted and my files and all of my work just was there but not reachable...

so I un mounted the H.D.D. from the worldbook case and installed it over usb with an sata to usb adaptor (you can install it directly to your pc if you like)

then I searched the web and found and application-driver to mount ext2-ext3 partition on windows xp-vista...

and I started to see the "light" :)

all my files were there, untouched, unlocked.... so i took a backup and now I'm using the h.d.d. without the ethernet but via usb...

the software you need is here...

GREECE SAYS HEY!!!!

Computer won't start after installing MioNet

What type of Internet Security are you using?

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections (In Vista, you must go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections)
2. Right-click on your Local Area Connection, and go to "Properties"

In the list of devices installed, if your Internet Security company has installed a Packet Filter on your computer, you should see listed within there something such as "Anti-Virus NDIS Filter" or "Firewall Filter" -- something with a "Filter" in it, or even just the name of your Internet Security's company.

To remove it, perform the following:

3. Select the Filter, then click the button below that says "Uninstall"
4. Restart your computer in Normal Windows Mode.

You may see the WinPK Filter Driver listed in this window; if you do, please do not remove it -- this is part of MioNet. However, the driver should only appear in this list under the Windows Vista operating system, not the Windows XP operating system.

Please let us know if this information has been useful.

I cannot access western digital 1000 gb

Here is a tedious solution that works. Use MioNet and move all the files you want to keep to another drive or another computer, then delete everything from the MyBookWorld. Remove MioNet from all computers. Next access the drive's built in Shared Storage Manager with a web browser. Check the pdf manual on the install disk to find out how. Create a new shared folder and then move everything you want on the drive into the new folder WITHOUT using MioNet. Map the shared folder as a network drive for easy access. Never, ever, EVER use MioNet again and all should be good. The drive works, the MioNet software does not.
