Perhaps you've built a computer and are turning it on for the first time, or you've owned this computer for awhile. Either way, you may encounter an issue where the monitor shows a black screen and the computer is beeping. There are several causes and solutions for this problem.

1.Refer to your motherboard manual, since the motherboard is the beeping device. These beeps are like Morse code, and each "beep code" is explained in the manual. Common beep codes include not having a monitor or keyboard properly connected; not having a CPU fan connected, or not attaching internal power cables to the video card. This black-screen-and-beeping issue is most common with newly-assembled computers.
2.Check external cables to make sure they're properly connected. The most important external connections to check are the monitor's signal cable and the keyboard. If your monitor cable looks damaged or kinked, try replacing it with a spare. If your keyboard's cable looks frayed, try a spare keyboard.

Also, a PS/2 keyboard plug (round, with holes in it, about the diameter of a finger) is often color-coded purple. If you have plugged it into the green port in the back of the computer (for PS/2 mice) switch it to the other one. If there is no color coding, the proper port should have a small, embossed icon of a keyboard on the back of the computer. If it does not, refer to your motherboard manual for the correct port. If all else fails, try a spare keyboard, preferably USB (Universal Serial Bus), which can be plugged into any USB port on the back of the computer.
3.Check for additional motherboard power connections. Yours may require multiple cables attached from the power supply. There is the standard wide plug, which you know is connected properly because your motherboard is beeping. However, there may also be an additional, four-pin cable that connects elsewhere on the motherboard. Check the board's manual to make sure it has all the power connections it needs.
4.Check your internal cables. Make sure that the CPU fan is plugged into the motherboard header nearby. Without that, the CPU fan will not spin, and the motherboard may detect this lack of connection and produce a beep code. Your video card also may have one or two internal power plugs that need to be attached to the power supply's cables. These cables have unique ends on them, similar in shape to a USB plug. Refer to the case or video card documentation if need be. If those cables are not attached, your motherboard may refuse to boot the system.

Your video card may be faulty. If this is a new card, it may have arrived to you broken, in which case you will probably need to request an RMA (Return to Manufacturer Authorization) to receive a replacement. If this card was previously working for you in this system, you can contact its manufacturer yourself to receive a replacement, if the device is still under warranty.

I hope you find it very helpful.

Why does my acer aspire one not boot with a hard drive besides the screen going white when connecting the charger?

If you can plug an external monitor into the laptop, and if it works ok, the video on the laptop is going bad (chip or cable). If an external monitor works, I recommend you back up your data asap, if possible to an external hard drive. No way of telling how long before other things go wrong, and the price of fixing it might cost more than getting a new laptop.

Laptop wont start.

Remove the battery and unplug the power cord for 5 minutes, put in the either the battery or the powercord and power on.

if it doesn't power on, make sure the charging light is lit on the front of the laptop when the power adapter is inserted and plugged in properly.

light blinking when you power on means battery low / no power.

If the problem doesn't go away you need to contact acer for warranty service if you are outside warranty contact a local repairer.

Acer Aspire 5536 only gives black screen when i connect power supply

  • Nothing is more annoying than a monitor that refuses to turn on. Make sure your Acer monitor is plugged in to a functioning outlet. If it's plugged into a power strip, try replacing it with a new one or moving the plug to a different outlet. Ensure that both ends of the power cable are plugged in firmly and securely, and that the connection to the monitor is not loose.
Cable Issues
  • Your Acer LCD monitor will usually accept DVI and VGA inputs. If you have an older computer, a VGA cable should work fine. If it doesn't have a VGA port, you'll need to obtain an inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter at your local computer store. A DVI cable, however, is compatible with most modern computers and offers superior picture quality over VGA. Make sure you're using the cable that's compatible with your system, and that you have the proper conversion adapter, if necessary.

Laptop turns on but screen doesn't show

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

My acer aspire one laptop screen is completely white how can i fix it

Power down the laptop (press and hold the power button).

Try turning it back on, and hitting the F8 key to get boot options. Start in "Safe Mode" or some other configuration that worked and see if that fixes the issue.

If the screen does not show anything at all, try connecting the laptop to an external monitor while starting up.

White horizontal lines running across laptop screen

I did not see any white lines, Simon, in the screenshot.
Just sayin'.
(Glad you tried to post it though!)

The problem is caused by a faulty Video Cable, or it's in the Display Assembly.

However, you better start the diagnoses with using an external VGA monitor, and see if the lines show up on the external monitor, also.
This would indicate a bad graphics chipset.

For most people that would mean replacing the motherboard.

A) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA connector, on the Left side of the laptop.

Example of a VGA cable, and VGA port, (Connector),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

You can use a external VGA monitor that is a CRT type, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor with a VGA cable.

A1) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By default the display should show on the external monitor.
IF Not,

Press, and hold down on the Fn key, (Bottom left of Keyboard), and at the same time tap on the F5 key. (Top of Keyboard)
{The F5 key is the Display Toggle-Over key }

No?
There are at least 3 display options available.
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY.

Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F5 key.

Graphics look good on external VGA monitor?
Your graphics chipset is good.
Problem is Video Cable, or in the Display Assembly.

B) Video Cable: (LVDS Cable)

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-acer-aspire-7551g-laptop/

The above is for an Acer Aspire 7751G, but it is close enough to the 7750G models, and info should directly crossover.

Scroll down to Step 17.
The Video Cable connection to the motherboard, is shown by the yellow arrow at the Top Left.

Note, although the photo is less than, the routing of the Video Cable.
It goes through the Left Hinge.
(Then into the Display Assembly, and connects to the back of the LCD screen)

With normal opening, and closing of the laptop, the Video Cable could be pinched, or have been pinched. Could have been pulled on.

You close the laptop, the cable is slightly pinched in the Hinge, and it pulls loose from the motherboard connection, AND/OR the LCD screen connection.

Doesn't take much of a loose connection. In fact it's hard to discern with the human eye, sometimes.
Make sure this motherboard connection is tight.

You have to open the Display Assembly, and check the Video Cable connection on the back of the LCD screen.

Doesn't look loose? Try to plug it in tighter anyway.

Check the connection of the wire/s from the Video Cable, TO the screen Inverter.
The small circuit board behind the Display Bezel, (LCD Bezel), and mounted to the bottom of the LCD screen.

When on the motherboard side, the side of the Video Cable that runs through the left Hinge, is there any apparent damage? Damage to the sheath of the Video Cable?

If there is, chances are the tiny wires inside the Video Cable, are damaged also.
Check with a multimeter. Perform a continuity test of Each wire.

C) Display Assembly:
Video Cable checks out then the problem is in the Display Assembly.

1) Screen Inverter:

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Acer,Aspire-7700-thru-9800,Laptop,Inverters.aspx

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-broken-screen-acer-aspire-5745g-laptop/

Not your model, granted. Posted for the Display Assembly dis-assembly pictorial guide.

Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.
Your laptop uses a series of LED lights for the Backlight.

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

A CCFL requires a screen Inverter.
A screen Inverter converts the power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

NOT all LCD screens that use LED lights as a Backlight, use a screen Inverter. I suspect yours does not, as I can't find a listing for a screen Inverter, for it.

http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/section/FAQ/1245191276/Correct%20backlight%20type%20for%20your%20new%20screen/

This would mean that if the Video Cable proves to be good, the next step is to replace the LCD screen.

Shop around for the best price, AND make sure it is a direct replacement for yours.

joecoolvette

Laptop screen is not showing anything after power is on

if the power is on and the screen does not show up , try to hook an external monitor using the VGA cable. If the screen does show up, it means that the problem is in the laptop LCD monitor itself. Otherwise if the external monitor does not show up, that means your laptop does not boot anymore to the operating system. Try to turn off the power and remove the power cable and battery on the laptop. Then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the battery and power cables on the laptop then turn on the laptop. If there is still no screen displayed then call Lenovo for repair of your laptop.

When I turn on the aspire one note book it goes to a white screen and will flash once and go to white screen and stays there, owver all other lights on the panel flash normal, but will not boot up. this is...

If you're still under warranty, you can diagnose one possible problem easily enough. Blank white screen with the LED indicator lights running normally otherwise will almost always mean that the LCD panel is bad. If you don't have an external monitor available, find a friend with one and hook up the laptop to that monitor. Be sure to have the laptop power off when you attach the monitor cable. Press the power up button and then the Fn+F? (whatever F key has a little icon on iyt showing a monitor) combo to switch to an external monitor. If your laptop's Operating System shows up on the monitor, you know for certain it's jus your LCD panel that's bad and you can ask the manufacturer to replace it.

Peripherals not working

Try plugging in a full size desktop monitor and reboot your computer. If the new monitor turns on its a problem with the LCD screen. If not, it is a problem with the main laptop which means a motherboard problem or a RAM problem. Try removing the RAM memory and reboot.
