Question about Samsung DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

I have a Samsung SH853M DVD recorder. It's a bit complicated to use but I have generally got to grips with it. My problem is that HDD recordings are often "jerky" on playback. They skip and sometimes just stop. This has been especially bad whilst recording the Olympics. I have tried to improve things by setting timer recordings to XP but when I set up a timer recording it is automatically set to FR and I cannot access the mode sector to change it. Similarly pressing the Rec mode button (in normal stop mode) does not have any effect. Any idea what I am doing wrong please?

Are you connecting via an HDMI cable? I had this problem, and went back to using a scart cable new recordings did not have this problem.

Hello, when dubbing from DV mini tape to HDD

well one solution may be the speed you are recording at. L.P. recording on a dvd often creates this problem. but usually it is when you copy dvd to dvd, not mini dvd to dvd
Never record more than 2 hrs on a disk
there are programs for a work around that reprocess the dvd vob file with adjustments for the sync.
could also be a hardware problem
is your mini dv long play source as well?

Cheers
Dave

No, I'm afraid not - this player simply does not offer that feature. Amazon reviews are very negative about the product.

Copying to hdd problems

Its not easy to copy a DVD, unless you have the proper software. Even then there is a lot of trial and error that you have to go thru. My suggestion is to findout whats the recording software that are used by both of the recorders and try to get around them by means of a computer.
Or alternatevly do the recording via a computer.

Samsung DVD SH853M Freeview/HDD/DVR. Recorded list - cannot access

The Manual fro this machine is typically vague on the minutae of setting up and performing various functions.

Apparantly the 'standby button' on the handset should be in the 'off' position not the 'on'.

The logic of the layman can seee it as the opposite. This does work..... and thank you for your patience.

Make sure you are not using DVD+R dics - the player won't play these. It is OK with DVD-R.

SAMSUNG HR733 DVD RECORDER WILL NOT PLAY ANY REGION DISCS AT ALL

On page 45 of the user manual it says this:

Both the HDD & DVD RECORDER and the discs are coded
by region. These regional codes must match in order for the
disc to play. If the codes do not match, the disc will not play.
The Region Number for this HDD & DVD RECORDER is
described on the rear panel of the HDD & DVD RECORDER

If you changed the region codes on your player it will not work. They should be set back to 1 or whatever your model says on the back of the unit.

If this unit was purchased outside the United States, it may not work in the United States.

Here is a copy of the manual if you need it:
