I need to determine tip/ring polarity for the DC power connector of my ECS A535 notebook. Also need source for the connector.
I was given this unit by my son who described the problem as "The cord has a short in it". Visual exam shows someone spliced a "universal" adapter cord to the A535 power adapter. The way the universal adapter is configured allows connection for either polarity.
I know what you're trying to do, and I don't recommend it. I've done some splicing, and had a few that burned up the machine, so I recommend buying a new power supply. Check Ebay, you can generally find one at a reasonable price. Here check this link to Ebay, they have your adapter for $16 and change. You can't beat that. So why take the chance of ruining the machine.

A new adapter at this point is not an option. I don't want to put money into it not knowing if it even works.
I still need a source for the part. I've figured out the polarity with my meter. I could find the source myself if I knew what to call it. A type number or style number, dimensioning specs, etc.
