    Hi,

I'm extremely technologically illiterate, so I was wondering if you could help me. I am having the same problem; I can't turn off my mouse pad. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I am using Windows Vista. I am a little weary about touching the BIOS as you mentioned above, do you happen to have any other suggestions?

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Andrea

When you are booting up from a cold shutdown, Tap the F2 key until you enter the Bios/System Setup Pages. Usually you use the Alt+P key combination to navigate in these pages, but there should also be a legend at the bottom of these pages to indicate what keys change pages. In these pages you will come upon your option to choose pointers. One is usually, glide pad + mouse. I'd try that first, as it senses when a mouse is attached and disables the glide pad. However, this doesn't always work with Dells. So, if that is the case, choose Mouse Only for a PS2 Mouse and or Serial for a USB Mouse.

The Glide Pad is found in the Control Panel, Mouse where you have a property tab that has the settings for your glide pad. Besides setting pressure sensitivity you can also disable it in some Dell Systems.

If none of this works for you, look on the bottom of your laptop for the Service Tag number and send that set of numbers and letters to me using the comment box below and I'll find you the driver update that should repair your Glide Pad.

As always, please rate all our solutions on FixYa.

Always here to help,

Try going to Control Panel - Hardware and sound - mouse. Once you have the menu for the mouse open, go to device settings. Click settings, and all of the advanced controls for the functions of your mouse pad can be found there.

I can not get my scroll bar to work on my touch pad, Dell inspiron 6400. How do I get this to work?

Try to load the "Touch-pad" drivers. Copy and paste the following link into your internet browser:

Click on " input device drivers" and download the "Synaptics-Driver".

you will need to install your Synaptics driver. Use the Driver disc that came with your DELL or you may download the driver at www.support.dell.com.

Dell inspiron I6400 touch pad is not working

Unless there is not a hardware switch and the only manufacturer that I know of that did that was Compaq/HP about 5 or so years ago. Typically there are no drivers to be installed for a mouse (touch pad) as a generic set is in the driver library of the operating system. 9 times out of 10 it is a hardware failure. With that being said, if it has warranty send it in, if it does not, (although it may just be a loose connection or the touch pad itself) most repair shops are going to run anywhere from 150 - 300 dollars just to crack it open. Best option is to get a small USB mouse, unless you just really want the touch pad.

Disable touch pad on my Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook

there should be an icon in your taskbar, right click it and it will say something like pointing device properties, then device settings and click dissable, or go to my computer>right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager, then look down list for mice and pointing devices, click '+' sign, the you will see the touchpad, right click and select dissable.

the problem that you are having is that you need a touch pad driver to communicate right. you can find that on your dell website. search the model that is on your dell laptop.

hope that solves your question.
thanks.
