SOURCE: ps3 shuts down

It's a over heating issue. Make sure it isn't on carpet, in a closed cabinet, or any other enclosed area, also make sure it isn't next to a heating vent. Let it cool down for a few hours, and it should be ok.

SOURCE: light turns on, light turns yellow, light turns red and blinks.

Your ps3 has overheated. This is the equivilent to the red ring of death for xbox 360. The ps3 problem is called "yellow light of death" this means your ps3 has died due to the console being overheated. The solution to this problem is either getting a new playstation or take it to a shop in the UK and they could help you fix it for a price around £30-£50 GBP.

My ps3 will not stay turned on when i do try to turn it on its light turns to a yellowish color and then starts flashing red like it's off but it stays flashing unless you turn off the switch

The PS3 Yellow Light is the 360's cousin for the Red Ring of Death. My assumption is that you may have unintentionally blocked any sort of cooling the PS3 has. Here are some steps in correcting that yellow light. This information comes from HowtoFixyourPS3.com:

In order to fix your PS3 yellow light error, there are 3 things that you can do.

1 - Restart your Playstation 3.
2 - Check for loose cables.
3 - Unplug all cables, and plug them back in.
4 - Take out your hard-drive, and place it back in your console.

If these 4 tips didn't fix the PS3 yellow light problem, then it's high likely that there's something wrong with your hardware. In order to repair that problem, you can do 2 things. You either send your console over to Sony. Or, you simply fix the problem yourself while using a PS3 repair guide.

My red lightstay on and well not stay on

If your ps3 doesnt turn on at all and its just a red light. You need a new internal power supply. If the ps3 turns on for just a few seconds and beeps you need to reflow your cpu and gpu on the motherboard. You have yellow light of death.

My ps3 wont turn on i tryed to turn it on but it just turns rite back off how do i gett it to stay on

It seems that your ps3 is experiencing the yellow light of doom:
Try this: 1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

My ps3 won't stay on. Everytime I turn it on it turns off.

Yellow Light of Death problem.

It's related to the GPU on the motherboard ( in almost every case)

Sony's the best place to get it fixed right the first time.

I wouldn't recommend you repairing it yourself.
