I want to use my webcam, but I dont want to have to use skype or video chat. Shouldn't I be able to take video and stuff just to save to comp. or something??

There are several freeware software out there that will let you do this. Acer actually has one on there website for download, but if your working with an older laptop that had windows xp and was upgraded to 7 the crystal eye cam software won't work. I did an upgrade and couldn't get the crystal eye software to work so I downloaded some from CNET, or any where that you trust to download from. Also I'm sure that there are plenty of purchasable software to meet your needs. Hope this helps if you have more questions just ask.

Normally you can do video call.
While chatting and enable the video is possible with the latest version of skype 4.1.0.179

Trying to setup a webcam to operate with Skype. As soon as I click on video, the screen goes blue and the computer shuts down. I have tried another brand of webcam and the same thing still happens.

Sounds like your classic driver problem. Look in Device Manager and find your webcam. Right click on it an update driver/reinstall driver.

My veo web cam dont work on the skype chat

go to www.splitcamera.com
Install the program... then run the application..
click on file, video source, veo mobile/advanced web camera
(you should see yourself in the application window)
then open you skype
click on tools, options, video settings
choose splitcam capture, save
worked for me..
