There is a security screw in the back of the F63D classic iron. It must be removed to get the back plate off. I haven't found the right tool yet myself, though it was suggested it is a "security" Torx.

SOURCE: cord short ccircuit

The back comes straight off. All you need to do is take a small screwdriver and pry against the bottom metal piece, then it should start to come off. Make sure you take it off carefully so as not to break anything. Pry evenly all around the plastic end cap until it comes off.

After that, you can replace the cord. It's connected via two crimp caps. Easy to replace. Just make SURE you purchase a cord rated for an iron.. DO NOT clip the plug end from an extension cord or similar and use it. The iron uses 16 gauge HEATER CORD. Easy to find, but you could melt your power cord and possibly cause a fire if you don't replace it with the correct type.

Electric cord is working sometimes

You have a short in electric cord. If you choose to replace cord be sure to replace the entire cord. Do not attempt to repair a damaged cord as this may present a fire hazard.

Cord has a short in it

You'll have to remedy or better replace the cord. Just buy similar to hardware store and put it to your iron. It's simple to replace and you have to have a analog tester to be able to test the cord without plug-in to AC wall voltage.
Thanks for asking.

My Pro Finish 714 cord was accidentally cut. Is it worth replacing the cord? Where do you get a new cord and can I replace it myself?

Thank you for using FixYa. Is the cord cut near the iron end or the outlet end? could the cord be shortened? A new cord can be purchased at most reasonable hardware stores and with a little care and attention can be replaced yourself.

Hope this has been of some help.

Broken iron cord need an iron repair person?

Depends on warranty stipulations, mainly, and finding someone who knows how to do it. Doesn't hurt to ask if the appliance guy can do the job.

My dog chewed the cord to my Rowenta Iron

Yes, but not warranty covered.
Check your local yellow pages (yes, printed book) for an apliance repair shop (look for discount coupon in back while you are at it).
Does not have to be an "authorized" Rowenta shop ($20). Get an 8 foot cord if you think you need a longer cord.

The dog can be fixed, too: (I couldn't resist typing that) Wipe some "training spray (pet shop or WalMart $5)" (harmless to dog & environment) onto the new cord (NOT ON THE DOG) to train the dog to leave it alone.

Take your iron to a hardware store and they should be able to guide you to the tool that you will need.
