Re: Not reading games
Really though I have gone through 3 ps2's already, and the tracking system inside that controls the laser eye gets worn out and you have to resort to turning the ps2 on its side or rotate it around in order to see a disc. It's a pain I know.
Replace the ps2 with one of those small ones or just go get another one. Not much you can do.

The 'Eye' that the PS uses to read DVDs/CDs are different, the one that reads cds has gone bad on yours it seems, so you should still be able to play the games that have the dvd logo, if it is still under warranty I reccommend calling sony.
Your laser probably has to be adjusted. You will need a multimeter, a small flathead screwdriver, and a little skill. First take out the laser from the Playstation. Then with the multimeter test the potentiometers on the laser using the resistance (Ohm) setting. Thye look like little circles with a small line through them. There whould be 2 of them. The idea of this is to turn the potentiometer on each one UP 10 percent. So, if it says 1.20, you want to make it say 1.32. After you do that to both of the potentiometers, reassemble the Playstation, and hope to God it worked. If not, I would check at your loacal game stores to see if they do console repairs.
I would try cleaning your Playstation games, Check and make sure that the games your trying to play are not cracked in anyway. Also, if you have your system standing vertically lay it down horizontally. Many times after you've closed the disk in it lens to far away from the lens.
