you can simply install the driver by downloading them on the manufacture's website
CD are not up to date so downloading drivers for your device is better with update solution for any bug.
Go yo that website and select the good mp3 player
select your operating system (vista or XP)
and download the latest driver
install it and you should be able to sync your mp3 to your pc and send music to your device.
There's a driver for Windows 98 on their website, www.cobyusa.com -- go there, then find your device - when the page loads, you should see "downloads" - in that, there's a driver. Download and install and you should be just fine.
