Question about HP Printers & Copiers

15 Answers

I have a HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-one. I have the following error come up on the printer screen .."Ink cartridge problem. Remove & check colour cartridge" I have now tried 3 new colour cartridges.. being careful not to touch the copper connectors etc...and making sure they are snapped in tight... but still keep getting the same error message. The make of colour cartridge is the same I have used for the past few months. Any ideas ?? Archie

When you changed the color. did you print a test page and align the print heads? if not you will need to do this so it can reset it's self that there are new ones in the printer.

Before you insert the cartridge, did you remove the small tape covering the copper contact on the cartridge? Just a thought. Otherwise, you can clean the metal contacts on the printer itself using cotton and alcohol.

Another thing is you can press the Power and Resume button on the printer simultaneously for 20 seconds then release. Check if you still have the same error.

That's the last thing you need to do. Use an original cartridge. Likewise, you can use the old original cartridge and just refill the ink so you can save money. You can buy refilling tools and bottles of genuine colored ink for your printer. It also includes a manual on how to refill the ink.

Have you cleaned the contact with alcohol? Are you using genuine hp cartridges? How long have you owned the printer? Please don't reject my help if you need further assistance. Have you unplugged the printer for an extended period of time? Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thanks,
Lee

Yes this often can be the first thing that is the problem as most of these are "reused" cartridges that are refilled. I would highly recommend you try a genuine hp cartridge only downside is if you have a problem your out like 28-40$. I have gotten off brand cartridges and found several to be faulty and would not be recognized and had to have them returned for replacements. If you have a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly I would greatly appreciate if you have any other questions let me know.
    Thanks,
    Lee

Not clear here if you are using genuine HP cartridge. If it's a yes, replace the printer.

Here's the thing with "cartridges not recognized" by printers, genuine or not - it'll happen.

Cause: Bad batch of carts manufactured or the printer just can't detect the cart.

It happens a lot with 3rd party carts though.

Once it stops recognizing carts, it's bound for service (replacement is the better option).

Take the printer cartridges out, and using a quetip and some 91% isopropyl alcohol, clean the shiny copper looking plate on the print head located at the back of the ink carriage in the printer, then wipe it dry with a lint free cloth. i suggest doing it a couple of times.

Then reinsert the print cartridges, do a test page and/or a clean cartridges page, and see if it clears up.....i suggest the clean cartridges first, then a test page.

If it does, perfect, if it still does the same as before, the printer is probably going bad check for the warranty......

Hope that helps.......

Remove the cartridge. Turn off the printer. Turn it back on and put in the cartridge. Just test that and see what happens else you will have to reset the printer.

Not to worry on an HP the print head is on the cartridge hence whatever you do to the cartridge. When you change it its brand new again.

    TRY THIS FEW STEPS:

    Reboot.
Sometimes, for no good reason, a printer will become wedged (it just
stops communicating with the computer). Turning your printer off for a
few seconds, and then back on, will usually get you going again.

    Read the printer’s lights.
Doing this can provide you with very useful clues. Is the power light
on? Is the paper feed light blinking? Don’t be afraid to press buttons
on the printer: Turn it off and on, reset the paper feed, and take the
printer offline and bring it online again.

    Check your physical connections.
Is the power cord loose? Does the cable from the printer to the PC have
a secure connection at both ends? Look at the connector pins on your
cable. Are they bent? Try another cable if you have one. Check the
print cartridges and printing mechanism. Is anything blocking the
printer? Are the cartridges firmly in place?

    Print a Windows test page.
Access your printer’s Properties dialog box (follow the directions
given above). Select the General tab and click the Print Test Page
button. If nothing else, you can find out a good deal about your
printer’s problem. If the test page prints, you have a problem with
your application, not with Windows. Answer the questions as prompted
and work through Windows’ Print Troubleshooter as needed.

    Drivers. Verify
drivers on the Details tab in the Printer Properties dialog box. Make
sure the installed driver corresponds with your actual printer. Check
the manufacturer’s Web site for updated drivers and browse the support
pages on the site while you’re there.

HI,

Take the cartridge out and rub the contacts with a piece of damp tissue paper and try again.
Check the contacts in the printer itself where the cartridge sits. If there is any damage or pin hole on the white ribbon with the gold contacts on it then the printer is unrepairable but it sounds like a cartridge problem.

I had a HP Photosmart 2535 All-in-one that was doing the same thing. Found a firmware upgrade on the HP website and it resolved the issue.
Don't know for sure if the FW includes your model but I recommend you check the HP website to see if one is available.

The Ink at the head of your Printer Cartridges has dried up.
Try this:

Load some plain paper in the printer

Remove the cartridges from the printer and carefully dab the print heads of the cartridges with a damp paper towel. ( when you start to see ink, the ink is starting to flow).

Replace the cartridges into the printer.

Go to:

Start
Control Panel
Printers
RIGHT click on this printer
choose Printing preferences
services
clean print cartridges 9some papers may print)
follow the instructions and do the heavier cleaning as well

Run the calibration function and allow the paper to print.

Error Code 0xc1ab0001 What do I do?

Hi,

The "Oxc1ab" series errors can be removed by resetting the printer. Unplug the USB cable from the printer, remove the ink cartridges. When the "Insert ink cartridges" message appears unplug the power cord from the printer. Wait 1 minute (at least), then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer if it didn't come on by itself. Reinsert the ink, close the unit and print a calibration page if prompted to do so. Finally reconnect the USB cable to the printer. If this doesn't work, the unit needs service (or replacement if the service call will cost more than a new printer).

Thank you!!

Printer (HP deskjet F4180) showing E and color

This means that there is issue with the Ink Cartridges.
Please remove and re-insert the cartridges.
Check the expiration date on them. Also make sure that you are using genuine HP Cartridges, not refilled or Remanufactured.
If the issue still persists, please replace the ink cartridges.
