Question about Sylvania 6842-PEM 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television
My tv went off and never came back on after 1 month of purchase, cannot return it from my location so I'm stuck with it. most persons complained about a burnt capacitor which they manage to fix, but there is nothing burnt in my tv. all the voltage points from the power suply board are correct. what could be the problem.
The defective capacitor, if that is the problem, is not obvious. But the main power board has a standby mode and an operating mode. Many of the outputs are off in the standby mode. Do the output voltages go on when you press the power button? The tv draws considerable current when the power turns on, about 7 amps, and less then 1/2 amp when off. Do you have a way to monitor the current?
If the capacitor is the problem, it needs to be replaced with one with a Y5P dielectric or it will overheat and burn out again in a short time. Of the main power boards that I had in for repair, about one out of three had a problem other than the burned capacitor.
