Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

I'm working on a Weatherking 10PJA with a 24AH. Is that a muffler or filter/dryer coming off of the compressor discharge line? What type of metering device is on the indoor coil? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

It is a filter, probably to collect either moisture or contaminents. This unit most likley has a fixed metering device oriface where the evaporator connects to the line set.

You have a severe restriction in the liquid line or at the metering device. I assume these pressures were taken running in the cool mode. I need more information to pinpoint the problem. I would not condemn the compressor until i eliminated all the causes for the odd pressures. Did this problem start suddenly?

It sounds like your compressor is either not running or is low on refrigerant. If it is low on refrigerant it means you have a refrigerant leak somewhere in the system. The leak would have to be found and repaired or the unit is going to keep leaking down every time you pay to have it recharged.

Check compressor run amps is correct with a ampere meter. If less, it's under gas leak. Keep your arm on discharge line (smaller pipeline). If no heat means no gas in the system. Find leak and arrest it. Vacuum and recharge gas.Better service the unit and check. Due to condenser & cooling coil, air filter, blower wheel are dust blocked will result to very less or no cooling. Helpful?

I have a goodman CKL36-IH. I was told the windings in the compresser are bad. Compresser runs but dosn't pump.Drawing a vacum,What goodman unit can I replace it with or can this be fixed?

Did you see the guages connected to the system? If the compressor comes on and pumps the line down to a vacuum then the compressor is working. It sounds more like you have a restriction somewhere in the system. Most likely at the metering device or filter dryer. You can use an ohmeter to check the compressor windings yourself. The compressor only has 3 wires, Com(mon), Start, and Run. With the power off connect one meter lead to the Com leg. Next connect the other to the Run leg and read the meter. There should be some resistance there but not a lot. Next connect that meter lead to the Start leg and read the resistance. It should have more resistance than the Run leg but not be open. Next you can connect one lead to the Start and the other to the Run and you should get the sum of the Start and Run readings. Let me know what you get.

System not cooling space it cooled once before?

Hi, could be compressor loosing efficiency, i think suction pressure is to high at 85, also it could be moisture in your system, did mechanic replaces filter drier on high side of system , when he replaces evap. install filter drier on liquid line, if there isn't one, also check compressor valve, you can do that by cutting or desoldering the high side from compressor, connect charging port to compressor, conect your gauge charging port, start compressor, pump up to between 150- 200 psi shut off gauge, and leave for about 1 hr. then check pressure, if pressure decreases, then your compressor valve are leaking, if it maintain same pressure, then compressor valve is o/k. you can do same on suction side, this time in vacuum, if it holds vacuum pressure, then valve is o. k, RLA(LRA) lock rotor amps, is amount of amps compressor used to start, but will drop once compressor is running, 11.6 when operating is o/k, does your evap. compatible with condensing unit?, is it right size. check also that you're using right type of freon, check condensing unit & evap labels for right type of freon, make sure they can handle same type of freon. but check compressor valve carefully, i think your comperssor could be loosing it efficiency, compressor could be your problem. good luck.good luck

Compressor Problem WeatherKing 13AJA36A01

Your warranty on your WeatherKing is five years on the compressor. When you buy a compressor to go in your unit it is 1 year. Several resons for bad valves. Dirty evaporator coil, overcharged and bad evap fan motor. James

Bon-Air mini split 1.5 ton, suction and discharge pressures are equal. discharge valve has ice on it. and the suction and compressor are very hot.

Sorry to sat but the tech has no idea what he is doing. The metering device is in the discharge valve, making that line a low pressure, not high. If the "suction" line is hotthen it is running in heat mode.

2 TON WEATHERKING HEAT PUMP VIBRATION AND NOISE.

Your friend is correct. Installing a sump or p-trap in the suction line will probably help. The oil may be leaving the compressor but can't get back.
