Question about Acer Aspire 3690-2196 Notebook

1 Answer

Slow startup, slow responce.

I have 5 to 6 minute boots times and software is extremely slow to load. Running XP Media Center edition, all software set not to load on start up by msconfig, except for norton. I have ran full HDD defrag, upgraded to 2gb ram. Task manager shows what ever my current task is as using most of the processor time. HDD light seems to stay on constantly durring boot. Have done full scan using norton and "spy-bot search and distroy".

Well this is an obvious fix but replace your HDD with a 7200 rpm SATA HDD from http://www.newegg.com
It should be a fairly cheap upgrade depending on how much storage you need.

You should see a significant improvement. I be willing to bet your HDD is a slow 5200 rpm and slow seek time.

Remember, the slowest parts of your computer is your HDD and CDROM

Slow Windows Machine! Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate. Consider increasing RAM.Uninstall any extras like those pushy toolbars, and add-ons.

Why does my comp. load web pages really slow, it just started this 1 week ago

Make sure to run a thorough virus scan.

Slow Windows Machine! Sounds like not enough resources such as RAM and CPU. Check Performance in Task-Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). High CPU levels causes hang ups like freezing. Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate. Consider increasing RAM. Uninstall any extras like those pushy toolbars, and add-ons.

Use Tuneup Utlity Software to clear unwanted files on the c drive.
u can use this to also remove unwanted programs, registry entries, etc. this will definitely speed up your system. also check if a lot of programs load at os start up. you can also remove unwanted programs loading during startup.

My HP laptop (Pavilion) is running very slow. I'm afraid to download the ''TV Specials'' we see advertised. Thx, Ray

download 'ccleaner' from filehippo.com & run it & remember when u run it, only check the temporary files, recycle bin, recent documents....
this might speed up ur notebook...
If you are using XP or Vista, you have this. You can access the boot menu by loading your MSCONFIG. During the boot up your computer issues a time out to find new hardware and software. You can short this time to boost your startup speed.
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type msconfig
4. In the system configuration utility, click either BOOT tab.
5. In the boot menu, change the default setting for Time Out from 30 to 5 seconds.

Acer Aspire 5740 works very slow

It seems that your computer is loaded with a lot of programs during startup. This means that before windows can formally start, it has to load all those software into memory which can readily translate into slow performance.

To boost your computer performance, you have to decide which software to load at start-up (or boot time) and which should be loaded when necessary only.

To make this easier, I recommend that you download "CCleaner" software, a free software that can manage all these. With CCleaner, you can easily "disable" a software that is configured to load at startup.

These is no risk in unloading a software from startup since you can just open them when you need it. Startup programs comsume a lot of resources making your system to perform slowly.

Also, with CCleaner, you can cleanup the registry with all the mess that your programs do.

You can download it HERE.

Very slow to boot

Hi,
That's a sign of too many applications loading at startup. Click on RUN and type MSCONFIG / STARTUP tab. Uncheck any items like photo software etc. that don't need to run at startup. Also if you're running Norton antivirus or any other Norton products, loose them. They're resource hogs.

Hope this Helped!

possible that the virtual memory is fragged. try disabling the VM then do a disk error check followed by a disk defrag then re-enable VM.
