The printer is printing only black and the inks are both full. When you go through the options and the word Collate shows up it shows: Collate-Black, and I think is has to show Collate-color, but I have tried every options to show Collate-color with no luck. Please let me know if I can get some assistance out there, thanks.
How long ago did color print correctly? If it is more than two weeks your cartridge has dried out and must be replaced. A test page including all colors and black is included in lexmark and dell printer programs. It should be run every week minimum and daily in hot, dry environments.

Your black printhead is blocked. The printhead is deep inside the printer and has to be taken out by the expert and cleaned with the help of 'steam' and hot water. This is because not using the printer for a long time. or using low grade refill inks. Please select new cartridge only if you are inserting a new cartridge or fully refilled cartridge. Otherwise use old cartridge option. Brother printer has a mechanical sensor and not the electronic chip in the ink cartridges. After inserting the old used cartridge if you choose 'new cart' option it will show the "Full" ink. You can still print from the exhausted ink cart after covering the sensor in the middle by a piece of paper in emergency.
I assume you have the black cartridge installed correctle and it has enough ink. Check these : Either through Contol Panel or any other place where you can see a list of installed printers, select your printer. Right Click on the Printer Left cLick on Properties. Left click on Preferences. Click on Color tab Choose ...Color Or Gray Scale Some times it will show as Color OR Black Choose black. You have to do a test page. Hope this will help. luciana44
Check the ink lines, the printer head might be clogged, If thats not fixing anything then check your printer settings on the computer and remove the color option. Changing it to black and white can somtimes just be from color, not just black.
Hi, If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black. Let me know if you need any further assistance. Best wishes, Graemevm
All you need to do is to clean the small wide glass (that at the LEFT of the main flat big class). The Auto Document Feeder (ADF) specifically uses this glass to scan for copy (and fax). When it is dirty (such as small dirt or particles on the surface which is easy to gain in long run), it will create thin vertical line(s) as the result.
HP Inkjet printers work only if both the cartridges have ink unlike HP Laserjet printers.
If you want the printer to print only in black, Follow the steps
Start --->Control panel -- >Printers and faxes ---->Right click on the printer icon (HP c5100) select printing preferences.
Under printing prefences there u will see an option to print with black or print in gray scale.
Note:HP Inkjet printers like Photosmart C5180 will work only both the cartridges have ink.
