Compatible ink cartridges / chips for W7200 do not work!

Hi,

have a W7200 with following informational parameters:

S/C. Ver. 02.00.00 S/BOOT: Ver. 01.03.00
E/C: Ver. 1.09 E/Rel: Ver. 0001 E/BOOT: Ver . 1.00


I bought compatible ink and the replacement chips for "full" cartridges.

First I had some problems with mounting the chips (resp. the small boards). The chip on the board was thicker than the original and the contacts were pressed away from contacting to the board. Mounting the board slightly higher solved this.

The new chip was not recognised and I always had the error "Check Bk Tank".
Another chip - other type Auto Reset Chip - was not recognized as a Black Chip. Error: "No Bk Tank".

The supplier was helpful giving the second chip type - but now no more ideas.

Can you help?

Do I have the best firmware? Especially for using compatible cartridges?

Further to above, i bought the chip resetter on ebay for $46AUD and it works a treat.
While waiting for the chip resetter to arrive, the following excerpt, from vrsko above, also worked

SOURCE: how does one rest ink chip on Canon Prixma MP 980?

I believe you have to press resume to get the non chipped carts to work.At this time there ar no resets available other than the resume.
You will void your warranty.
Call Canon and tell them the printer is not working and take advantage of your 1 year warranty and only use Canon inks from now on or until reset is available.
If you want you can mention that you USED non Canon ink.

Regarding your recent inquiry about the Epson T071 ink cartridge error message ("Ink Light is red", "Cartridge Not Recognized", "Replace Cartridge", "Installed ink cartridge is expended." or similar cartridge/printer alert message) associated with your Epson SX200 printer, the cartridge probably has a mis-programmed smart chip...

NOTE: If you had the cartridge refilled, the cartridge chip must be reset. Re-programming, which typically yields a green light to show success, it does not always result in correct smart chip reprogramming. It is also possible they may have forgotten to re-program the ink cartridge. If a compatible/clone cartridge, it could be a reprogramming issue or defective chip (which is common). Or, such a failure could be an electrical failure of the ink cartridge itself*. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do from home....the chip(s) need to be re-programmed (at refiller) or replaced with a new cartridge from vendor.


*OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES OF FAILURE:
Either the external chip or internal ink sensor is electrically bad (the internal ink sensor detects if cartridge is really out of ink). If you return the cartridge to your retail refiller and they re-program the cartridge(s) a 2nd time but the "replace cartridge" message, or similar blocking message persists, then this is the likely cause and the cartridge will need to be replaced with a new one.

1) Confirm if this is just a nuisance/annoyance alert (i.e. "non-genuine" cartridge ) vs. an actual 'unrecognized cartridge' alert (i.e. Red X's on printer display / Windows pop-up message). 2) On some Epson printer models you may need to scroll thru the menu options AT THE PRINTER'S CONTROL MENU (i.e. right arrow key) to help determine which specific ink cartridge is actually causing the 'Unrecognized Cartridge' error condition. 3) We suggest you remove all the ink cartridges, inspect the smart-chips condition (on rear side) and ensure there are no cuts/gashes or ink residue present on the micro-chip surfaces. Hp 8600 missing or damaged print cartridge how to fix?


If you observe the error message "One of more ink cartridges may be missing or damaged", "Cartridge Damaged", or "Ink Cartridge Failure", "The following cartridges are not intended for use in this Printer", etc. then the printer is not recognizing the installation of the refilled ink cartridge(s) or 'smart chip' which is affixed to the rear side of ink cartridge is causing the detection issue. This type of issue can also be caused by a bent pin on the PRINTHEAD assembly or one (or more) electrical contacts are dirty on the PRINTHEAD assembly (especially if the same error occurs with a brand new HP ink cartridge). Typically, the problem is usually an incompatible smart chip which is affixed to the rear-side of the ink cartridge.

(1) It is first suggested you remove the respective ink cartridge from the printer and thoroughly clean the cartridge's smart chip's gold contacts/electrical surfaces using an isopropyl dampened lint-free towel. Ensure no ink residue is present on surface of the chip. Also ensure the chip is located in the proper position. Please refer to the 2nd photo on the following Inkjet411 support page - carefully inspect chip position to ensure it was properly placed: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1999 Following cartridge 'smart chip' gold contact cleaning, please re-install the ink cartridge and retest.

(2) Remove PRINTHEAD from printer and inspect for damage to contact pin(s) on the INSIDE OF THE PRINTHEAD ASSEMBLY. Please refer to printhead removal procedure below for reference. Often, you can gently bend the pin back into position to correct the issue.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR BRAND NEW HP PRINTER MODELS (temporary issue until approx. mid to late August 2014):
If you continue to observe "One of more ink cartridges may be missing or damaged" alert messages, please note that printer firmware versions CKP5CN1334ER for the newer HP Office jet Pro 8100 and 8600 printer series (manufactured after Nov./Dec. 2013) do not allow the replacement chip to function (this problem temporarily impacts brand new HP printers only -- this problem will be resolved sometime in June 2014 with the release of upgraded smart chips to all Costco stores which will work in the newer printer models).

Confirm if your printer is impacted:

1. Verify 8100/8600 printer firmware - print the PRINTER STATUS REPORT or PRINT QUALITY DIAGNOSTIC page to verify your firmware version.
2. To print the printer status report, on the printer control panel, press and hold the (Cancel) button for three seconds (i.e. 8100 models). Alternatively, you can print either of the reports from the TOOLS menu if this does work.....OR.......
3. Check 'Product Information' - 'Firmware Version'
a. CKP5CN1334ER for the HP Office jet Pro 8100 and 8600 printer series
b. If your printer has this printer firmware version, then you may be impacted.

If the error message persists then we suggest you return the cartridge(s) to your refiller and request to have the 'smart chip' (attached to cartridge) replaced with a new chip*. If Costco does not have the NEW CHIP VERSIONS yet, then request a refund for the refill purchase.

However, if the same problem occurs with a 2nd cartridge (or manufacturer's brand new ink cartridge) then the PRINTHEAD may either have ink on the internal electrical surfaces (where cartridge mates to it) or the PRINTHEAD may have a bent or deformed contact pin. Remove PRINTHEAD from printer and inspect for damage to contact pin(s) on the INSIDE OF THE PRINTHEAD ASSEMBLY. Refer to printhead removal procedure below for reference. Often, you can bend the pin back into position to correct the issue.

You should also ensure the EXTERNAL electrical contacts on PRINTHEAD are clean of any ink residue. Clean with damp towel to remove residue. Refer to the 5th photo on the following Inkjet411 support page: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1999

ADDITIONAL ERROR MESSAGES / NOTES:

2. An "Ink Cartridge Depleted" message can be observed (printer will cease print operations) when an ink cartridge 'really is' out of ink. HP has small sensors which look into the bottom of the ink tank to ensure ink is present. Typically you will receive 'Low Ink Warning' messages just before this occurs.

3. Since the printer monitors ink usage/drop counts, it will display the 'Ink Sensor Warning' messages when it 'predicts' the cartridge should be out of ink, but these messages can be temporarily ignored and you may continue printing. Eventually the 'Cartridge(s) Depleted' alert message will be displayed when the cartridge truly is out of ink.

4. The "Use Color Ink Only" or "Use Black Ink Only" messages can be caused by poor contact (i.e. electrical connectivity) between the ink cartridge's 'smart chip' and the carriage assembly (which the ink cartridge plugs into). Typically a 'Red X' will also be displayed on printer control panel LCD or Window's pop-up screen when this condition is present.


*This type of error may be caused an electrically damaged 'smart chip' which is affixed to the rear side of the cartridge itself, a mis-aligned chip (wrong position), an incorrect replacement chip type (i.e. operator installed the wrong chip on for that color and/or tank size). In most case the cartridge will need to have a new replacement chip installed by the refill operator. We apologize for the inconvenience if either of these possibilities prove to be the root cause. Riso 390 has error code d4-534


The machine do not reconise the ink.At the back of the ink there is a electronic chip that tells the machine what tipe of ink it is.There is a problem with that chip or the ink is not compatible.Replace your ink in most cases this will solve it,but let me know if I can futher assist.

Epsom stylus CX4700 won't print - new ink cartridges installed


They cut costs on Epson compatible cartridges by using low quality ink and chips or not resetting the chips at all. Sounds like you got cartridges that the chips were not reset on so your printer thinks all the cartridges are empty. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and I would never recommend purchasing compatible Epson cartridges from anyone. I would buy refills of Epson brand cartridges and make sure the seller reset the chips.

Will not recognise all cartridges


some problems with compatible cartridges can be solved by taking all the ink out and powering the printer off then back on then put the ink back in, you might have to do this a few times also make sure no ink or dust has built up on the pins.

Compatible Cartridge


Hi,
if the cartridge has a micro-chip on it, it,s possible that the cartridge has not had the Chip recharged after being filled with ink.
Alternatively, go to printer properties or preferences, and locate Maintainance. If there is an icon to change ink cartridges, follow the on-screen instructions of how to.
On installation, if you get a message stating :- the following cartridges are not the original items, do you wish to proceed. select yes. If this fails, look on the web, to see if you can obtain A Chip-ressetting tool for your model printer, or if there is a suitable ink re-fill kit available.

1. You can do it only when the printer counter releases the warning message - "the ink cartridge is nearly empty" = yellow warning mark

2. You have to do this procedure four times - for every cartridge one times
3. At the screen you will see three warning messages
- for the first one press "OK"
- for the second and third one press "Yes"
4. The fourth message tells you that you can do the ink level counter deactivation by pressing the "Stop/Reset" button (7) for more than 5 seconds. Do it.


Later you can see another type of warning message at the screen:

In this case you can not follow the previous procedure - there will not be any other warning messages.
Just follow the message on the screen and press the "OK" button (5) and you can print.
Unfortunately - I do not know for how long time it works.

You have to manualy check the ink level and refill (change) the cartridge before it is completely empty! You might brake your warranty!
When you insert the new original ink cartridge, the counter will work properly again.

Can't use compatible ink


Hi,
You need a chip-resetting tool.
Or use the printers software utilitie changing ink cartridge, some printers insist that you go into your printer software/program. to inform or communicate with the printer, that you are changing a Cartridge. then the printer, will move the printhead to the desired position, to remove the cartridge.
When the new cartridge is installed, the printer is set to look for new changes. make sure you,ve inserted the cartridge fully into it,s slot ( holder ) push until you get a slight click.
If you,ve disabled Status monitor, then your printer cannot output the Cartridge Status. ( empty-Full )

Pixma 4200 compatible ink cartridge problem help


The ink detection is a critical function of the printer.

Ink actually acts as a lubricant for the heads, and running (Printing) without ink is equavalent to driving a car without oil.

I.E. It will seize eventually....

Hopefully you didn't print much without the ink, and your heads are still in good shape...

Here is a chip reset procedure....

With the original chip now attached to the compatible cartridge (you may need double sided tape to get the chip to stick well to the cartridge), and with the cartridge now in the printer, Press and hold the Reset/OK Button for 5 seconds to reset the chips.
  1. The "Ink Low" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 1 below)
  2. Continue to print until the "ink has run out" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 2 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print.
  3. The "Ink Low" dialog box may reappear, if so repeat the first 2 steps
  4. Then the "once empty" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 3 Below) Click "Yes" to continue to print
  5. The "Not Liable" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 4 below). Click "Yes" to continue to print
  6. Continue to print until the "remaining level of ink" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 5 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print
  7. Another dialog box will pop up with the "press and hold the Resume" or "press and hold the Paper Feed" button (similar to photo 6). Press and hold the "STOP/RESET" button (for Canon MP Series) or "PAPER FEED" button (for Canon IP Series) for 5 seconds. DO NOT Click "Back" or "Cancel Printing"
  8. The "Ink Monitor" dialog box will appear and the printer will continue to print. (similar to photo 7) In the event that that the "press and hold the Resume " dialog box pops up again, Press and hold the Paper Feed Button or Stop/Reset Button for 5 seconds

Ink low error


Hi there the ink cartridges are designed to be used once. Most of these new ink cartridges have a set chip on it once you have installed a new cartridge it registers that a new one has been installed and resets the ink counter for that cartridge. When you refill the cartridge it doesn't reset the chip.

I don't know how to reset the chip but the best suggestion I can offer is to purchase a compatible cartridge that has been reset.
