Where is the ground wire from the turntable connected to ? Ensure that is is connected to the phono pre-amp's ground.

Is the turntable sitting on top/near any other equipment ? Try changing the position and see if the hum reduces. If yes, then it is likely that it is picking up hum from a mains transformer.

Can the aiwa px e860 be run independently from a hi fi unit

You would have to make an independent power supply for it. It would help if you can find the system service manual. This should show what the power supply line is. You could then build a power supply. Generally these system turntables don't use one greater the 12 volts DC, and there are power adapters pre-built that would do the job. But you would need to adjust the voltage to get the speed right.

Aiwa turntable not playing through the speakers

Has the amp got a dedicated phono socket for the turntable? If you are using a tape or aux socket it might not have the pre-amp needed to hear the deck. If your amp doesn't have a socket for the deck, you will need a magnetic cartridge pre-amp.

Also check the connections to the cartridge, they might have come loose.

Good afternoon, have just replaced my stylus, an11, but on playing the sound is distored and "tinny", prior to the new stylus is was crystal clear..have tried a 2nd new stylus and still the...

Disregarding the narrative about the stylus damage, did you disconnect the TT from the electronics to work on it and then plug it back into something OTHER THAN PHONO? Only PHONO or somethign with a phono preamp supports a TT.

There is also a switch on it called "equalizer amp" that activates its own internal phono preamp. It could be in the OFF position by mistake if you're not using an outboard phono preamp.

As they say - RTFM...

How do I connect my ipod to my hm-381md stereo please?

Any audio device that has a headphone output can be adapted to feed an RCA cable pair for standard stereo to any audio device with a standard RCA input (except PHONO). Get a cable like the one described here:
and connect it into any available analog input EXCEPT "Phono".

Can you still get the px-e860 turntable? The one I have won't make any sound thru the speakers

Judging by my own experiences with hifi gear on eBay there is little on the face of the planet that ever really becomes UNavailable.

Wouldn't an attempt to resolve the issue work, too?

Describe your setup (preamp, amp, whatever) and if it has ever or never worked.

This unit can work through its own preamp with any audio equipment or with old-school gear already having an internal Phono Preamp. There's a switch to select which one.

Distorted, cracked sound coming through to the speakers

is it possible your new reciever has a built in phono pre-amp?

If so, you need to switch off the pre-amp inside the turntable (lift up the rubber matt, and rotate the plate untill you see the switch at the back)

Try again now?

Will not turn on

With the power cord getting hot it sounds like there is something up with the power supply section. Perhaps a faulty transformer or something.
