Question about PC Desktops

I installed the Logitech Quickcam Orbit MP. It will not launch when I double-click the icon. I have installed-uninstalled-reinstalled three times. No response. The hourglass shows for a fraction of a second, then nothing else happens.

Go to controle panel and look for scanners and cameras and when you see you cam click on it and see it should open from there then just drag it to the desktop from there

Hi Maureen, If you are not referring to your optical disc drive failing to work, then you can do this. Put the disc into your drive and wait a couple minutes. If a window comes up asking if you would like to install the program follow the installers directions. If a window does not come up go to 'Computer' and there you will see drive Icons. the icon labeled CD Drive or DVD RW Drive is where your disk is. It's the Icon with a disc. Right click the icon and at the top of the menu click 'Open' or 'explore' This will open the disc and allow you see the contents of the disc. You can now manually install by double clicking the installer. Good Luck

How to fix windows defender for free


The Windows Defender software constantly scans your computer for threats such as spyware that may slow down your computer or try to steal personal information. If the software wasn't installed properly or is conflicting with other programs running on your machine, Windows Defender may not work correctly. To repair the software you either need to download the latest update available for the program, or you need to completely uninstall and reinstall Windows Defender.

Restart your computer's operating system. Double-click the "Windows Defender" icon in the system tray at the lower-right end of the screen. Click the question mark icon at the top of the Windows Defender screen and choose "Check for Updates." Select "Continue" if you are running Windows Vista. Wait for the updates to finish installing and click "Scan." Click "Stop Scan" if the problem persists. Click the question mark icon again and select "Exit Windows Defender." Click "Yes" to confirm you want to close the software. Open the "Start" menu screen and select "Control Panel." Select "Uninstall a Program" in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, or instead choose "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows XP. Click the "Windows Defender" entry and select "Uninstall." Choose "Yes" and restart the computer after the program is removed. I have an Advent 4490 Netbook (Windows XP). The internal webcam has stopped working. I select Fn-F12 and a message says the webcam is switched on, but it is not working. No light either next to webcam. Can...


Hi! try to check if the driver for the webcam is installed on the machine, go to start->right click on my computer->properties->hardware->device manager. Check if the driver is there, uninstall and reinstall the driver by following the steps below:

Drivers
1.Click Start > My Computer.
2.Double-click the icon for XP (C:) drive.
3.You may see a message saying "These files are hidden". Click the Show the contents of this folder option.
4.Double-click the Applications folder.
5.Double-click the Drivers folder.
6.Inside this folder you will see folders for each device you can re-install, for example, Audio.
7.Double-click the folder and look for an icon called Setup.exe or Install.exe.
8.Double-click the icon and follow any on-screen instructions to re-install the driver.
9.After installing drivers it is recommended that you restart your computer.

***you have to run a program or a software (yahoo messenger, etc) for you to test if the webcam if it is working or not***

Pinnacle Studio Plus version 10 Keeps Crashing


If you are getting any type of error message or warning message (except a fatal crash message), then , click here to see the FAQ titled "Studio Launch error/warning messages" to resolve these issues. For a fatal crash or any type of lockup/freezing while launching, continue with this FAQ, below.
If Studio was launching for some period of time and then it stopped launching, it is best to try to determine what changes have been made to the computer recently and undo the changes to see if it has an affect on the problem. Here's a short list of what could affect Studio's ability to launch:
  • A Studio patch was applied but it didn't install properly
  • The graphics driver was updated
  • Hardware was installed
We recommend using Windows XP System Restore. You can obtain more information on how System Restore works from the Microsoft web site at:

Troubleshooting steps for Studio hangs or crashing while launching (starting)
1. RESTART THE COMPUTER. Try restarting the computer
2. WAIT A FEW MINUTES: If Studio still won't launch, wait a few minutes to let it finish launching. We have noticed on some computers that it may take a little while for Studio to completely launch. Studio 10 users click here to see the FAQ on this.
3. LATEST VERSION OF STUDIO. There was a launch problems in previous versions of Studio 10 that are now fixed in the latest version. When troubleshooting any problem, it is always best to be on the latest version of the software.
If you have Studio version 12, download the latest version here.

If you have Studio version 11, download the latest version here.

If you have Studio version 10, download the latest version here .

Note: Studio 11 patches will only patch a previous install of Studio 11. Studio 10 patches will only patch a previous install of Studio 10. Etc.

If you have an older version of Studio (Studio 9 or 10, etc), it is advised for you to update to the current Studio software. The current version is Studio 12. Click Here to go to the Studio 12 Upgrade page.

How to download and install a patch:
  • When downloading the patch make a note of where it is being saved to. We recommend saving the patch to the desktop.
  • Before installing the patch, make sure that you do not have any other programs running. Studio must not be running.
  • Once it is fully downloaded, double-click on the patch to begin the installation.
  • Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the installation. Reboot the computer after applying the patch.

4. SAFE MODE: Try launching Studio in Safe mode. In Safe mode, many device drivers and applications do not load. If Studio will launch in safe mode, then the issue is most likely a configuration problem with your computer. NOTE: We do not recommend using Studio in Safe Mode. This step is for testing purposes only. To start in Safe mode:
  • Shut down the computer
  • When you turn it back on, tap the F8 key every couple seconds until a menu pops up. (If the XP splash screen appears, the F8 keys was pressed too late so restart the computer and try this step again)
  • On the menu, choose Safe Mode, and then press the Enter key
  • Launch Studio
If you need help starting in Safe mode, you can click here to get information on Microsoft's web site
If Studio won't launch in Safe mode, then Studio many not be installed properly or the install may be corrupt. We recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Studio.

I have a logitech quickcam IM (webcam). It was installed awhile ago. It was working fine. Then, there was an update which automatically updated my logitech. I then started having problems with my viewing....


I would try downloading the most recent driver from Logitech. Click HERE. It will ask you what operating system you are using and then give you a choice of 2 files. Download the QuickCam v11.5 file and install. Let me know if this helps.

Compac n6000 usb port problem


The issue could be due to corrupt USB Driver. I will give you a few steps to re-install the Drivers.
Please perform the following steps to uninstall USB Port.
1. Right-click on My Computer icon and select Properties.
2. Click Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button and double-click the Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
3. Select a device listed under Universal Serial Bus Controller, right-click and Uninstall.
4. Click Yes to confirm the uninstallation of the device.

NOTE: Repeat step 3 and 4 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

The USB port is now uninstalled. Now, restart the system. The system automatically detects and reinstalls the USB port.

Step 2:-

Try the following update for the USB port.
