If I had not just taken my old xbox apart after many years of constant abuse and found there to be very little dust/dirt in it then I would suggest that it could be overheating. In the last 12 hours I have read a bunch of possibilities..

power supply going bad
dvd drive going bad
overheating

It really sounds like overheating to me as I had a similar issue with a GF8800 in my PC just recently.. maybe you can blow it out with compressed air. (with the drive open)

While I was playing my Modern Warfare 2 it just suddenly stopped working and now the disc is unreadable.

Try this: first take any disks out of the xbox, turn off your xbox for about 30mins, unplug it all from the mains, take the harddrive out and back in ensuring it is in properly secure and clicks. Then after 30mins turn back on holding the eject switch and the small switch neer the centre by the memory slot 2, hold the small button down first then the eject button so you are holding them together, release the small button and press the button again, Then open the tray reinsert the game and you now should have the game up and running again. hop this helps and post back the results.thanks.

Three red lights on my xbox

Unfortunately this is a fairly common problem, the actual xbox has failed. You are going to want to call Microsoft at 1-800-4-My-Xbox for a replacement.

My xbox 360 gets the red lights

Hi hinesdylan,
Not good news unfortunately. That red light that comes on is also known as "the ring of death".
there is only one way i know of correcting this situation.
as weird as it sounds
you need to overheat the xbox 360 in order to get it working correctly again. i know this as i have one myself and been in the same situation.
you need to switch the console on then wrap a towel around it and leave it for approx 30mins.
this should return it to its correct working order.

Hope this has helped :)

Help

There are solder issues, so something to try is just leave the xbox on for an hour, turn off let cool for 5 min. If that doesn't work, it's a difficult solution to recommend but the towel trick' does work, let it over heat the 360 for about 20 min, then let it cool for 20 more min, and it now works fine, I have a inner cooler now to keep from overheating again. Also don't take apart the xbox, if this doesn't work then just send it back to microsoft

Xbox shuts down during a game 3 red lights

hey johnny you will have to call microsoft and get it fixed there is one thing you can do in the mean time to temp fix it.

what you need is two towels just normal bathroom towels take everything out of your xbox e.g harddrive, controlers etc only things to leave in is the av cable and power supply as you wanna turn on the xbox lie a towel flat on the ground and lie the xbox on its side ontop of the towel turn the xbox on, you will see the error message and the red lights flash. wrap the towel around your xbox covering the air vents and then the 2nd towel put over the top. leave it on in the towels for about 20 mins then after that take all the towels off turn off the console and leave to cool down for 15 mins. turn the xbox on and it should restart again fine but only lasts for a couple of days then you have to do it again. wont fix it but will let u play while microsoft gets it.

hope this helps please rate me

regards grant
