Question about Samsung HC-P4752W 47" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Power to T.V. went out

I was just watching T.V. and it completely went out, no sound and no picture. I replaced the two IC's about a month ago and everything was working fine until last night. Could you, please, tell me what I may need to replace now? Thank you very much for your time.

The Samsung HDTV 47" rear projection, model: HCP4752WX/XAA has been going in and out for a few weeks, it certainly was a tell tale that is was about to go out for good. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

  • Carissa1 Sep 04, 2008

I already tried unplugging it, it certainly works for about five seconds! That's not waht going out.

  • Carissa1 Sep 04, 2008

Where is the power supply chip and what model # or part#?

  • Carissa1 Sep 04, 2008

It's obviously a power supply issue ( I mean from my inexperiance :). Please, explain why it could be the two IC's again?

  • Carissa1 Sep 04, 2008

I have checked my a/c wall power socket and this is not it, It surely is within the T.V. I can hear it trying to power up, it will even illuminate the red power light next to the power button on the front of T.V. (sometimes) but, nothing happens when the button is depressed. thank you.

  • Carissa1 Sep 04, 2008

I would like to know more about this and if could be the switching IC or the MICIOM

If the convergence STK ICs failed again, that could also cause the no power on your TV.

Depending on how they failed this time, they could have affected other circuits that are connected to the same voltage supplied to the ICs. You can still try the suggestions from the link to isolate the failure to the power supply.

Have you done any hand soldering before replacing the STK ICs?

Did you apply thermal compound to the back of the ICs before soldering?

You need to replace the power supply chip. Check the fuse as well if it's burned. Another thing to check if there are any other burned components. If you found one, replace it as well.

Trace the power cable going to the circuit board. The first chip that is in series with the power cable is the power supply, check the manual of your TV for the part #.

How old is this set? If still under warranty then Samsung will cover it.
If just out of warranty and you call Samsung sternly they may still cover
you on it. If over 2 or 3 years of age you will have to repair it on
your own ticket by locating some burned components other than power supply or STK ICs. If over 5 years of age you may want to think whether
    to repair or not.

Try first unplugging tv for one hour .

Try first unplugging tv for one hour, often if the safety switch starts and tv does not start.
by draining power you reset the tv eeprom, and often you solve the problem.
Test also on a different socket.
If that does not work the TV must be tested starting from the power supply.
If there is nbo power at all check the fuse on the power supply. check also if the power cable has shorted. If the power plug is fused (eg in UK) check the fuse in the plug.
If you have the red led on the intenal boards must be tested.

If you get an error code or a led blinking a number of times report the code here.

If it is the power supply usually you have no power at all.

Here you get all parts for your model.

This should be the power supply: POWER SUPPLY
    call them at

    1-866-925-PART (7278)

to ensure it is the right part and , after testing the power supply, buy it.

If it try to power up, then switch itself off that is the safety switch , it means a fault had been detected.
It can be bad voltage from power supply or a different internal fault, there are several thousends components inside the TV.
If you want to do it yourself you need to get the service manual and follow the troubleshooting diagrams. Testing components and measuring voltage out.
    You start testing power supply.
If you recently replaced STKs also test convergence board, test the pico fuses at the base of STKs for continuity, if the convergence ICs had blown again, then it is a powering problem on convergence board, in this case replace convergence module.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Sep 04, 2008

The internal switch is not the problem, that is not the fault and you cannot bypass it , it is controlled by what is called the jungle chip, the TV main CPU that controls most important functions.

    Ginko Sep 04, 2008

If you decide to DIY test the most obvious first, test components on convergence board.
If you do not find the fault contact the seller here: parts for your model,
    and order the service manual.
Follow service manual to test the rest of the boards and buy parts.
Unplug TV from power one hour before taking the unit apart.

SOURCE: Sony KP-51WS500 wil not turn on

did you notice any color flashing at all during the poping? As that model is fairly famous for the green CRT shorting out or the flyback arcing. Does the power LED light up at all or possibly blink? Let me know about the LED and I will try to help you diagnose what the problem may actually be. respond to this same post, so I can keep this problem seperate as I have so many responses with different problems that its hard to keep them straight unless we keep using the origional request each time.

Mitsu WS-55859---turned off & only powers up for 2 secs

2,2 is short protection.

98% chance the fuse or fuses (there are two 5 amp pico fuses) that protect the convergence circuit are blown. If you find F9AO4 OR F9AO5 on that board check them--if either is open the STK-393-110 DID IT.

Fairly short life for this chip if it was installed correctly and had heat sink compound applied to it--once in a while you get a bad one.

No picture, but power light and sound OK

The problem you have there was a loss of vertical deflection followed by a complete failure of Q301, the vertical Ic LA7833S.
It may have been in part due to the feed caps located in that circuit and there will likely be NO outward signs of the failure.
The Ic needs to be replaced and the electrolytics in that circuit need to be measured with and ESR meter and replaced if bad.
If it's starting to sound a bit beyond your ability I strongly suggest having a qualified shop do this because you can overheat the vert Ic easily just soldering it in...
If you have a shop do it you might ask what they charge to replace the vertical Ic and ESR the caps in that circuit. Explain to them what you have here with regards to how it went out, dropping to a horizontal line before going completely dead... The more detail you can give the easier it will be for the tech to troubleshoot the problem.
Good Luck!
