Could you post the model number please. There is no reference based upon the number you posted. It will be easier for me to cross reference based upon the model.

My daughter let me have her LG 42" tv. As I am on

  • There are a couple boards as well as a power supply that goes bad in them LG Plasma's quite often.
  • Here are a link to the two different boards in question.
  • Here is a pic of the 2 boards in question. Y on the left and Z on the right (indicated with the red lines) You want to remove the connectors from them two boards that run to the power supply (circled in yellow) and if the TV powers on it is one of them boards. Connect one of the boards and power the TV on. If the TV powers on it is not that board. If it does not power on it is at least that board.
  • If the TV powers on then there is no need to unplug that board again. If it does not power on then you need to unplug that board to properly test the other board (because it could be both boards.
  • Now plug the other board in and turn the TV on. If the TV turns on it is not that board. If it does not then that board is also bad.
  • At this point you should have been able to determine which board IF neither are bad.
  • If neither board is bad then the power supply (top middle board) needs replace. This would be indicated by both boards being unplugged yet the TV still does not power on.

  • OK so now I have explained how and what to test/replace on your TV. Now for some safety information.
  • Them silver bar looking things going across the boards are heat sinks and can carry a possible 500 volts and you touching them can cause you to ground them and serious injury or death can result. I recommend a tech to do this. But you have the steps to diagnose and fix your TV. The choice is yours.
  • Good luck,
Regards, Tony

No picture

Common faults that give you no picture and sound on Plasma are often related to Sustain board, buffer and cables problem.

In this case the cost will be affordable, ans surely worth.

In the unlikely eventuality that instead you have a faulty plasma screen , or a faulty digital control board (main board), the cost of repair may be high.

The only way to find out is by having the TV inspected by a technician.

The most common fault that gives you no picture and sound on plasma is Sustain board , lower buffer, or connector, that is repairable.

Hi I bought a Panasonic 42 Inch class 720P Plasma HDTV TH-42PX80U, the picture is fine, but there is a humming sound in the background of the audio. The louder I turn the tv the louder the hum. I tried...

If turning up the audio amplifies the problem, it is in the initial stages of audio. It could very likely be outside the TV, try difference sources to troubleshoot your setup. If it hums on all inputs, the problem is before your audio switch and could be on the board with the AV jacks. Note all plasma tvs hum out of the back of the tv (ie power board, y-sus, z-sus board and panel all make a little hum noise)

Goodmans pdp42tv006 plasma, comes on for 15 secs then shuts down power led blinks red constantly until power is switched off, when power restored does as above many thanks if you could shed some light on it,...

This is a common problem on these plasma TV's. The problem resides in the high voltage boards known as the X and Y Sustain boards.. You can purchase them here for a very reasonable price:

The above link is to a Y-SUS board. The X-Sus board is often the 2nd cause of failure and can be found here:

To test which board is failing, you need to check voltage input to the YSUS board first... Input should be 120V from Power supply, output should be above 250V.. Do this test with XSUS disconnected. IF 250+V exists, then XSUS is damaged. If not, then the YSUS is the faulty part.
