I have a B&D Firestorm 18v 1-hour battery charger, model 5100235-09 (240v). When I insert a battery to charge, only the green "battery full" LED lights immediately. But the battery never charges. Opening the charger revealed that the R2 resistor (looks like around 2 watt type, ie. not as big as a 5W rectangular type, but more than 3 times the size of a 1W cylindrical one) has overheated/scorched. I cannot make out the colour bands due to the discolouration, but the first band appears to be brown, second white, third grey?, fourth silver? Does anyone know what this resistor's correct value is supposed to be? Also, diode ZD2 appears to have conduction in both directions, whereas ZD1 does not. Does anyone know what type of diode ZD2 is? Rectifier diodes D1 - D5 all appear OK. Do you know what the T- and T+ connections are for? Does anyone have a circuit diagram for this board? I do not wish to purchase another B&D charger as I have been reading that they are !@#$. I would prefer to try to repair it or, preferably, adapt a DeWalt 18V charger to charge my slide-on batteries. Any ideas on how I can do this perhaps? Cheers

Hi I have same problem with the charger. Solution is to replace the charge with new part number issued from B&D Australia
Number of 90515050-01 until stock runs out , then it is replaced by part number of 90578873 early to mid june 2013.
Hope this helps

I've the same problem with the charger. first the transformer keep overheating and burnt then only the red light will turn on even the battery is fully charged. The F188 cordless drill is one of the best drill B&D has ever made but let down by this poorly designed charger. The rest B&D are just S*#T!I don't have all the answers to your questions:
1. I removed the transformer and replaced it with a external switching mode 24VDC PS.2. R2 is measured around 38 ohms, the colour seems orange-white-black. it does have discolouration. a higher one or two in parallel may help.3. ZD2 is 2V4, and ZD1 is 6V2, that may explain why ZD2 is measured 1.88 V reverse voltage with my Fluke 189. I'll try to use a different value later.4. T- and T+ are for detecting whether the battery is inserted and battery case temperature, there is a tiny temp sensor built in the underneath the metal button, my one measured around 8.8k ohms connected or not. What's yours value?

Why is the green light blinking on the Ryobi charger with the battery in it

My Ryobi 18V One+ charger blinks green while it's charging. When the battery is fully charged, the LED goes to a solid green. However, one battery recently had a faulty cell. After several hours on the charger, the green and red LEDs both were blinking. That indicated that the battery failed late in the charging sequence. It didn't fail the initial testing by the charger. The other battery I charged that day charged fine.

The extended capacity batteries can take 12 hours to charge in my experience. The regular batteries take less time. The charge time will depend on the battery chemistry(The older NiCd batteries take longer to charge then the Lithium batteries.)

I hope this helps. Assuming you aren't dealing with a cold or hot battery or charging environment, if you have any suspicion about a faulty battery, replace it.

(Note: I have a 12V drill as well. Those batteries takes longer to charge for the same relative capacity than the 18V NiCd batteries.)

WORX battery chargers

I'm going thru same prob. with 24V battery for WG167. Had same thing with older 18V that came precharged & then wouldn't recharge. 3 batteries later, they sent me to a "technical" rep who said "NO NO, it's not the batteries, it's the charger" He sent me a reconditioned charger & it worked fine. I'm not having any luck so far with the "MAX 24V". On my 2nd battery. It didn't come precharged & will only charge to 18V which is what the charger is outputting! Trying to get a "tech rep" to diagnose but no luck so far. Their tools are handy & work well if you can just get the battery/charger resolved!!!

Just bought a Ruobi drill with 18V Lithium Batteries. Been chatging for over an hour. Still not charged. Just the bottom Green light stays on. Is this normal? How long does it take?

The Ryobi charger will flash green as it charges and then remain steady or slowly flashing green when fully charged. Flashing red means testing and if it remains steady or slowly flashing red it is defective.
