How to shutdown your computer very fastly in microsoft operating systems.

THis is from the HP tech chat thing, and it seems to be working. I did method 2 and browsed to the file:

Method 2:
1. Click Start 2. Click Run 3. In the "Open" box type C:\CPQS\QUICKSR\FRESTORE.EXE Performing these steps should resolve this
issue.

Follow the given steps to hide system shutdown button from start menu:

To use this feature, you will need to be logged into your computer with administrative rights.

1. Click Start button and type regedit in Run option then press Enter for next.

2. Here locate the location to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion \Policies\Explorer
3. Here in right side panel, right click to create a new DWORD value with name NoClose.
4. Now assign number 1 to its value data box. Now close the registry editor and restart your computer after any changes to go into effect.
5. But next time, if you want to unhide the shutdown button then simply change the value data box to 0 or delete this DWORD item.
6. Again close the registry editor and restart your computer after any changes to go into effect.

Please do the following steps:


Step – 1

Right-click on My Computer, open Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings. Under “System Failure,” Uncheck the box in front of “Automatically restart.”



Step - 2


To change the setting, click Start --> Run--> type GPEDIT.MSC, click OK.

Drill down to Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options.

In the right pane, find “Shutdown: Clear Virtual Memory Pagefile.”

NOTE: Since someone actually has to have set this policy, the problem will be pretty rare, but is worth mentioning. However, Forum participant “roadrunner” reported that the personal security app Privacy Eraser automatically enables “Clear virtual memory pagefile,” and, therefore, may be the cause of a slow shutdown.



Step - 3

When Windows XP won’t powerdown automatically, the APM/NT Legacy Power Node may not be enabled. To enable this, right-click on the My Computer icon, click Properties | Hardware | Device Manager | View. Check the box labeled “Show Hidden Devices.” If it’s available on your computer, there will be a red X on the APM/NT Legacy Node. Try enabling it and see if this resolves the powerdown problem (Tip from Terri Stratton). Or, to check the other side of the APM/ACPI coin, open the Power Options applet in Control Panel. If there is an APM tab, make sure the “Enable Advanced Power Management Support” box is checked.

Try a Shutdown shortcut -


For a shortcut to RESTART Windows XP:
SHUTDOWN -r -t 01

For a shortcut to SHUT DOWN Windows XP:
SHUTDOWN -s -t 01

WORK-AROUND: Disable power management for your USB hub: Open Device Manager (click Start, click Run, type DEVMGMT.MSC, click OK). Double-click to expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Double-click USB Root Hub. Click Power Management. Uncheck the box “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” OK your way out

Step – 6

Click on the Start button.
Select Run from the menu.
In the run dialog box type “msconfig”.
Click OK.
Once in the msconfig utility select the startup tab. In the startup tab you will see several programs listed with a checkbox beside it. If there is a check mark beside the application listed, the application will startup when your computer starts up.

Manual steps to perform a clean boot in Windows XP
Step 1: Start the System Configuration Utility
Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.

The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

Step 2: Configure selective startup options
1. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup.
2. Click to clear the Process SYSTEM.INI File check box.
3. Click to clear the Process WIN.INI File check box.
4. Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
5. Click the Services tab.
6. (VERY IMPORTANT DON'T MISS THIS) Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
7. Click Disable All, then Click on the startup tab and click on Disable All Button and then click OK..
8. When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.

Step 3: Log on to Windows
1. Log on to Windows.
2. When you receive the following message, click to select the Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows start check box, and then click OK:
You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts.

The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time Windows starts.

Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility.

Step 4: Optional step to disable features
This step temporarily disables Microsoft features such as Plug and Play, networking, event logging, and error reporting. Also, this step permanently removes the restore points from the computer. The System Restore feature uses restore points to restore your computer to an earlier state. If you remove the restore points, you can no longer restore Windows to an earlier state.
1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.

The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
2. Click the General tab, click to clear the Load System Services check box, and then click OK.
3. When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.

Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state
1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.

The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
2. Click the General tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK.
3. When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.
