This sounds like a problem with the screen inverter. It's also possible that a setting is off. Check the screen settings in the display properties.

How do I use the function keys on my Eee PC to view picture through my video projector?

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 ASUS and Dell = Fn + F8

The screen is really dark

Locate the Fn (Function) key on your keyboard. It may be on the bottom left side with dark blue letters. Locate the two "brightness" keys near the top of the keyboard. These will be in the "F" keys, possibly if F6 and F7. They should have little sun pictures or something similar to indicate brightness. Hold down the Fn key while pressing F7, or whichever "F" key your laptop uses to increase brightness. Tap F7 repeatedly until you reach the desired brightness. Fn must be held down as you continue to tap. Hope this helps.

I am trying to find out what the blue symbols on the function keys of my sk 9020 keyboard stand for

The blue keys serve as a secondary function for your volume control, monitor controls and pause play fast forward rewind (in media mode). In order to use the blue keys that are numbered from F1 to F12, you must depress and hold the Fn key that is located at the bottom left side of the keyboard. Here is a way to test it: Open up any file that plays sound for longer than 1 minute (60 seconds). While this file is playing, hold down the Fn key and simultaneously press F8 and listen to the volume get louder or Fn and F7 together and listen to the sound get lower. The picture of the crescent moon F1 will adjust the brightness of your screen. F2 will magnify your screen. F3 will take you to your email. F4 will take you to your internet home page. F6 will mute the volume. F7 will lower the volume. F8 will raise the volume. F9 will rewind your video playing. F10 will stop the video. F11 will pause or play the video. F12 will fast forward the video.

I've tried pressing fn and f7 at the same time and it won't work, neither will any of the other suggestions. And my computer keeps saying that the touchpad is enabled. Is there anything else that I can do...

Try hitting just the F7 key only. I had an issue with an HP Mini laptop and was hitting the Fn and the F7 key and found the key combination didn't work when I pressed both Fn and F7. But it did work when I just hit the F7 key (even though "F7" was written in blue, the same color as the Fn key, it turned out that I didn't need to press Fn and the key for F7 to gain the functionality of the F7 key. HP tech support informed me of that when I called them due to a similar issue I experienced a while back).

Try to hit F7 alone. That may help you out.

As for the touchpad, it should be enabled. (Unless you're using a different pointing device and want it disabled). There are options where you can turn off the touchpad on start up, but I would advise against doing so.

Is there a function key I can use to get a full screen of a video or a you tube video.

Press F11 for full screen. N.B: After pressing F11 it will not display title bar & task bar. The best way is just click on the button. shoyo_4.jpg If not it will display in this format without showing title bar and task bar. shoyo_3.jpg

Lcd screen stuck in external screen mode

How to use the function (Fn) keys on the keyboard - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p

Switching the display output location.
Switch between the computer display and an external monitor. If an external monitor is attached, the computer output is displayed in the following three patterns by turns:
  • External monitor (CRT display)
  • Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
  • Computer display (LCD)
Notes:
  • For any operating system other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, no additional procedure is needed. Just press Fn+F7.
  • This function is not supported if different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor (the Extend desktop function).
  • This function does not work while a DVD movie or a video clip is playing.
To enable this function in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the following procedure is needed:
  1. When you log on to Windows 2000 and Windows XP for the first time, press Fn + F7 and select a display-switching function in the Initial setup window. Since in Windows 2000 and Windows XP multiple users can log on to a single operating system by using different user IDs, each user needs to select the function in the initial setup window when logging on for the first time.
  2. If the Fn + F7 key combination have been assigned to a presentation scheme function, start Presentation Director, and change the settings.

The panel on my 600x works for a few minutes then turns off.

Your problem definitely sounds like the inverter - when you press FN-F7 you're restarting it and giving it a mild jolt. Luckily, it is a breeze to replace - undo two screws and pop off the screen bezel and it's just behind the contrast control. Get the service manual for the 600X from Lenovo's website which gives full stripdown details.

Computer used to work with projector, and now doesn't?

Have you tried pressing Fn F5? On my system (HP), by computer monitor goes dark when I connect the projector. Pressing (Function) FN F5 toggles the video between Computer Monitor, Projector, or Both.
Check the function settings for your computer. On my Compaq laptop at home, the video function is F4, so there may be different settings for your computer.
Good luck!

Usually you,d hit fn key And F7 Or F8 key to switch to s-video output. your hotkeys may be different.
Would strongly advise looking at user manual regarding hotkeys and switching video modes.
hope this helps.

ibm thinkpad does not boot My IBM Thinkpad 600 (Type 2645-310) stops and hang during bootup. What happens is: 1. LED test, then green Power on and orange battery/charging 3. RAM OK (Responds when I take out /put in different amount of RAM and displays correctly. I have 128 + 32 removable, + 32 internal not possible to take out) 2. I can hear fan, CD drive and evt diskette drive. If I use diskette drive the LED wil give 1 blink, if I use CD drive it will give 14 blink. 3. No cursor seen, but this is displayed: Upper left show the amount of RAM present: 196032 KB OK Upper right IBMs logo in blue; IBM Lower left shows "ThinkPad(R)" in large letters and red dot over "i". 4. Then a "rrrrrr" sound from the loudspeakers after a while, this is in fact 28 clicks shortly after each other. Then nothing more happens. Diskette and CD drive is OK (But can not be used because bootup is never finished). I hear CD speed up and then down again but nothing more happens. No effect in booting with bootable diskette or CD, "Live Linux" CD or else. Backup battery OK (3V) and if I take it out I will be asked for correct date and time when Power on. I can then use keyboard or TrackPoint to set date and time, and after that hangup at the usual point. Starting without battery, HDD, CD drive and removable memory sticks makes no difference in symptoms. Pressing and holding F1 before and during poweron and startup (in order to enter BIOS and selftest) has no effect. I could not find help on IBMs home page, but maybe I did not look at the right place. Is somebody able to help me?
