We have the same problem on the DV9000 p/n EW680AV, called HP. They EXTENDED the warranty UNTIL Jan 31, 2009 !!!! (the HP tech on the phone said that they would have fixed it for free if we called a week ago ) The problem happened during Jan, but we now are OUT of luck. Took two weeks, and two technicians to pin down this COMMON problem. I find that putting the computer in the fridge for an hour alows it to work for one minute.

First of all, if your Notebook is not turning on, try the steps listed below :

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
Note : Please see that there are no external devices or cables connected to the Notebook.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and do NOT connect the battery now.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

If the issue persists, get the Product Number of the Notebook which will be printed on a white sticker and pasted at the bottom of the Notebook.

Once you get it, see if it is listed among the few Product Numbers listed in the link below or not :

If the Product Number of the Notebook is listed in the link above and if the Notebook is purchased in US and is currently avaialble in US, you can get it repaired for free by contacting HP Chat Support.

You can find more information about this free repair program from the link below :

Hope this helps...

How long is the battery on a HP Pavilion dv9000 supposed to last?

Laptop batteries will usually last from 1.5 to 5 hours, depending upon the demand, the battery and the use. Sound burns up a lot of juice as does the DVD player so if you're watching movies or playing games an hour is about right. You can purchase a better HP PAVILION DV9000 Battery with 12 cell , it will work longger.

Hp dv9000 the lights comes on but it will not boot up!! screen just stays black. makes a few clicking noises and then nothing. then turns itself off and on!

Faulty Nvidia Chip...
You need to First Check and see if your laptop is listed under the recall list.. Go Here To CHeck..

Match up your Model Number... Not the DV9000 number.. but your specific DV9000 version (ex: dv9123us) then see if your p/n is listed there... If it is, You will need to contact them either by online chat or by phone...
Explain what your laptops doing and that you found your laptop listed on the recall/extended service list...

If it's not listed...

You have 2 choices, 1 you need to Reflow the GPU/Graphics chip which involves reheating the Graphics chip to re-melt the Solder balls on the underside of the chip and reconnect to the board... THis is a process Done only by an experienced tech... the chip needs to be weighted, then heated to a certain temp, held, then cooled at a certain temp.... This will fix your issue...

Other Choice is to replace the motherboard..
You can email me for further info on Reflowing the graphics chip..

My hp pavilion dv9000 17 power on but see black screen

If your 9000 is under two years old, you should contact HP customer care and have unit serviced under warranty.
HP has had allot of problems with the 6000 and 9000 units and in response has offered an additional year from date of purchase.
Its worth a shut. Doesn't cost a dime.
Hope this information has helped you.

Dv9000 overheating.

I had this exact problem occur. I'll tell ya how I solved it. I bought a Belkin Cooling Platform to put my laptop on. I know this isn't an ideal solution, but for me it has worked.
