Question about Ricoh Caplio GX Digital Camera

1 Answer

Grainy, image I bought my Riccoh Caplio GX 5.1 mp three years ago. At first it took the best pictures I could wish for, but for monyhs now I am getting very variable results. Some photos are OK, but many are grainy, "pixleated" - having tiny spots of the primary colours throughout the image. There doesn't seem to be any one situation when this happens. It can be inside, outside, flash or none. The pictures also seem to be a lot darker, so photos taken inside or at night are much poorer quality, - and I do understand the limitations with the flash range. I'm trying to attach an example, but your program won't let me. Pauline Shirrefs

You might have changed the settings; ISO setting too high or something else, just reset it to factory settings if you can't figure out ISO.

What is the best setting for clearest image in svp camera?

You didn't say which model SVP camera you have. The Aqua-WP6800 has 5 resolution settings ranging from 3MP as the lowest to 18 MP the highest. The 18 MP would be your best picture, but largest digital file, If you have an 11 MP model, 11 MP would be your highest resolution picture. Clearness of a picture is affected by both light and motion. Good light and no motion will provide the clearest picture.

Hello, Cameras today are all rated as mega pixels. The higher the (MP) the more detailed a photo will be. Vivitars' higher end cameras are great, but their entry-level ones aren't. Sometimes when purchasing a budget camera, you may notice that the built in lcd (for preview) looks really grainy. This is because the manufacturer uses a cheap lcd display to keep the costs down. Now if the digital picture itself is grainy, then it's time to return that camera. I don't want to just blurt out a camera model to you because I do not know the age of your child and at what level of responsibility she has with fragile electronics. But generally speaking, Canon cameras are amongst the best. Whether it's an entry level model or a high-end model, these cameras are fantastic. Again, the image produced is rated by its MP.....anything over 3MP (which most cameras are currently) and you will be taking high quality shots. Honestly, I would look into Canon and pick one that is sleek and maybe her favorite color. You CANNOT go wrong with them, unless she breaks it. =) I bought one for my sister, one for my dad, and one for myself and am so happy with it. Sony has nice cameras too in this price range but did not have the same ergonomics features (to me). The best thing to do is stop by a BestBuy and play around with a few cameras. I hope you see what I mean when you hold a Canon in your hands. To be realistic, you should spend around $140-$200 max. I bought myself a Canon SD600 years ago, with I believe 6MP(which is pretty outdated) and I absolutely love it.
My advice to you is however cheap the camera, get her a Canon. =) Hope this helps.

Good Morning! How to get pictures from my Rihoc Caplio GX own memory to the computer? I installed the software, however if I connect the camera with the usb cable to the computer, nothing happens. To...

I am not familiar with this particular camera, but I can tell you how this works with other cameras.

The camera's memory should appear as a disk drive in "My Computer" (Windows) when you connect it to the computer with a USB lead, just as the memory card does. BUT you have to remove the memory card from the camera first, or you will only see the contents of the memory card.

I bought a canon sd1100 a year ago. It used to take great pictures. One month ago all pictures taken have been grainy. Do you know why>?

Could be that ISO settings were accidentally changed. The main annoyances with high ISO setting are the noisy (grainy as you say) images. Check the iso settings if you are shooting in modes other than automatic shooting.

Grainy pictures

I have had this on my camera,

I took it apart and cleaned all the lens from behind and it took perfect pictures.

You best bet is to google the service manual, and see were you can go from there. if not take it to a local repair store.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Grainy, Spot Filled Images when using Manual Modes Only

It sounds like the aperture is getting set very high. If the aperture is a high number, the lens opening is very small which lets less light in and would cause a dark image. This would also show any dust that is in or on the lens or image sensor. The dust doesn't usually show on apertures with a larger opening (smaller number). Make sure your aperture is being set to a reasonable number, probably no higher than 8 or so.
