Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera will not power on.

My Canon SD1000 will no longer power on. I have 2 batteries for it. I have charged both up fully (the light on the charger turns green) and tried both batteries. I have cleaned the contacts on the batteries with a dry Q tip. The contacts look very clean. The camera was working beautifully one day and then in the same day it failed to power on and remains this way. The camera has not been dropped. The camera has not been wet. What do you think is wrong with it. It is just out of warranty. I purchased it in May 2007.

Mine too! The battery was completely charged. I took a picture, put it back in my bag. Then i took it out again a minute later, and it stopped working completely. It was not dropped or ever wet. Help please!

yes, mine was working.  i turned it off and it never came on again.  What a waste of money! it's less than a year old.  I won't buy canon products again, they are rubbish.

same problem! It just will not turn on and wish I knew why. The camera is only 1 year and 1 month old (of course it is just shy of warranty coverage) and was never dropped or mishandled. How frustrating!

same here! one second i was uploading my pictures then the moment i unplugged the camera it shut off and has refused to turn back on since. I even took it to Geek Squad at Best Buy. They took it for two weeks and told me they fixed it, but it still won't work!

Exactly the same for me on the SD1000. I think it may be the fuse as it happened when I plugged the cable into the USB. Anyone know how much it is to fix? Probably not worth it, good excuse to buy another camera though!

There are several things that could cause this.

1- Check the battery door indicator switch under the battery door and beside the memory card slot. Is the little black switch damaged or missing? Try pressing down gently using a pen it with the door open and then press the power button. Does it turn on?

2- The fuse has blown and needs to be replaced. Offhand I don't recall where it is on the SD750 PCB or how hard it is to solder on a new one (depends on if its tricky to get at or not). Good thing is fuses are really cheap.

3- Other power problem with the PCB due to corrosion or impact damage. The PCB or 'motherboard' of the camera will need to be replaced.

Flash Does not work. canon sd1000

This happened to my SD1000 and I followed the step by step instructions shown here:

and when I got to step 15, I found that the small plug that connects the flash to the camera body had been disconnected when the camera had been dropped. I simply pressed the connection back in tight and reassembled the camera - and it works. Maybe this happened to yours too??

My Canon Powershot SD1000 has a fully charged battery but won't turn on at all.

Does your camera turn on when it's in playback mode? I have a similiar problem with mine. It only turns on in playback mode.
