Question about Kodak EasyShare DX6490 Digital Camera

Will Not turn On

Camera has worked great up until the other day. I have noticed a little flickering when I start to take a picture. Now the camera will not turn on. I have changed the battery it is fully charged. My son has the same camera we switched batteries between the camera so we know it is not a battery problem. The camera was jarred a little on the tripod but not enough to do any damage, I wouldn't think.

I deleted all of my photos off the camera. Now I can't get it to turn on to take a picture. What did I do wrong?

Also, with the camera not turning on, when I place it on the docking station (6000) the battery indicator lights will not illuminate.....so would it be both a camera and docking station problem??

NN. Be aware children often understand a camera much better then we do. They also are fast learners.
One little nice of me, took pictures with one of my camera's from the age of 5. Every time I'm visiting she comes asking if she is allowed to take pictures. She already used one of my DSLR's and took great pictures with it. But being only 8 now, she is asking for the compacts, being heavy enough.
The somewhat ruggedised Nikon you are thinking of, will be a great camera for her, if she has an eye for taking pictures.
If she loves to take pictures and she does a great job, wait till she asks for another camera herself.
She can't start young enough. You will notice she is composing better than we can learn form the books.

Why the screen flickers

I bought three L110's for my department at work a few years ago. Each camera is used to take over 200 pictures on the average work day. I never heard about that problem until today when I went to a presentation by Nikon on there new D810 camera. The expert mentioned that the screen flicker problem has occurred in some Nikon models and that the solution is to go to the Nikon website and download and install updated software for your camera. Search for your camera in the Service and Support section. You will find a link listing all of the models and download the upgrade and instructions there.

I have a Pentax M20 camera. I love the camera but all of a sudden I find that when I turn the camera on, the camera almost instantly shuts off. I have new batteries in the camera. When the camera first...

I am sorry you having that problem, and even more sorry I do not have a solution...On my Pentax Optio M10 batteries rechargeable or fresh alkaline only seem to last about 5-6 pictures before the camera deems them flat without charge and shuts off...it is so annoying I assume yours is possibly doing the same.
I suspect this to be a camera problem, I also notice the camera dos not recognize all rechargeable batteries some of them do not even get acknowledge.
If anyone gets a solution help us both....

When trying to take a pic, I only get a black LCD screen. I can see the icons and I can play pictures back on the review mode. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks!

Try pressing the DISP button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place to save batteries.
That normally fixes the problem of a black screen, but if it didn't, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

My camera's monitor/screen is black with no picture

My AIPTEK 1080p was powering on but the screen was turning off within one second of turning the unit on. I verified that the camera was still working and just the output onto the screen failed. I was able to resolve this by hooking the camcorder up to the TV and viewing the menus on the TV and then turning the camcorder off with the power button. I think this problem happened because I didn't do a "clean" shutdown the last time I had my aiptek hooked up to the TV. It is now working perfectly!

Camera won't turn on at all

Make sure the batteries you try are new and not cheap crap, or improperly charged or old recharghables. You can by a card reader that plugs into your USB for $15 - $50 dollars and download the photos then. Or bring your memory card into just about any photo store to have them put it onto a cd for you which you can then copy onto your computer. $5-$10

This seems to be a CCD problem or associated circuits. Sony Support Team should know about this - may mean a camera callback or swap from Sony.

Did you try to reinitialize? Setup menu go down to the third Setup#1 menu and make sure you click OK to reinitialize. That's what the manual said.
