I am not able to use microphone on my Dell E5500 and also microphone option it is not showing in Volume controle tab...Pls help to get the same rectified.

Are you using any messenger service such as skype ,yahoo,msn .....

Click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down image devices you could see a yellow question mark? right click to reinstall drivers or update driver Make sure the microphone is using the same as your computers audio Click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick also select audio from the microphone drop down list make sure you have the right one selected and in the volume box make sure the microphone box has a tick in it or select the voice tab and make sure that you have the right media selected also select volume Make sure the box for microphone has a tick in it Hope this helps.

If you have volume control in the system tray (bottom right corner), double-click it. In Windows XP you will see all the sound controls. Increase all to the maximum level (except microphone).
Use the buttons close to the screen to increase the volume.
There is a volume control in the player you are using. Increase it to the maximum.

Using a microphone with computer

To use any microphone with your computer you will need to enable it in control panel. The following instructions are for Windows XP but are broadly similar for Vista and Win7

Click START, CONTROL PANEL, SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES

Click VOICE

In Sounds & Audio Devices Properties window locate SOUND PLAYBACK box. Click the VOLUME button. Make sure that there is not a check-mark in the MUTE box against microphone in the list of devices and that the volume slider is at the top of the scale.

Make sure the MUTE ALL box isn't checked before closing the window.

Now click the VOLUME button in the SOUND RECORDING BOX. Here SELECT microphone as an input source for recording (as opposed to un-checking mute in the playback controls).

NOTE if your microphone is not listed in the 2 sets of volume controls click OPTIONS, PROPERTIES on the tool-bar and place a check against microphone in the list entitled 'show the following volume controls' and then click OK. Same applies for Internal mic.

That should be it.

To adjust audio volume generally.

Under VOLUME tab adjust Device Volume as necessary. Also (under Loudpeaker Settings) click Speaker Volume and adjust slider to suit.

You might put a check mark in the box to show the volume control on the Task Bar so you can go straight to it to make adjustments in the future.

There are two separate mic settings in control panel - record and playback. Have you enable record also? See below. Also in Skype-Tools-Options check you have got the right audio device selected (normally WAVE)

youre sure your mic hasnt been switched to "mute"?

This is the issue regarding the Internal Microphone in the Computer.
Your contacts cannot hear you, until you have enabled the Microphone in the Computer.
You will find the information to enable the Microphone below:
Windows XP:
1) Double-click on the Volume Control. 2) Select the "Properties" option from the "Options" menu. 3) Select the "Recording" option in the "Adjust volume for" section. Click the OK button. Check the box labeled "Select" under the microphone volume and you should now be able to adjust the volume for the microphone.

Windows Vista:

1) Right Click the Volume Icon at the bottom right corner of your screen [The Task bar]. 2) Click [Playback Devices]. 3) Right Click the [Speakers] Icon and click Properties. 4) Click the [Levels] Tab; and there you will see the Microphone Volume slider (The one at the very bottom of the "HD Audio output" and "PC Beep" sliders where you can un-mute the mic playback.


Windows 7:
1) Click on Start (the Windows icon) and type sound. 2) Click on Sound under Control Panel. 3) Click on Recording tab. Select Microphone and click on Properties. 4) Click on Levels tab. The default Microphone Boost is set to 0. Increase it. 5) Close all the dialog boxes, and the microphone will be ready for use.

The Microphone might not be working, as it may not be enabled.
However, you may enable the Microphone manually by performing the below steps:
For Windows XP:

1) Double-click on the Volume Control. 2) Select the "Properties" option from the "Options" menu. 3) Select the "Recording" option in the "Adjust volume for" section. 4) Click the OK button. 5) Check the box labeled "Select" under the microphone volume and you should now be able to adjust the volume for the microphone.

For Windows Vista:
1) Right click Speaker near Clock - Recording Devices - right click in box - check 2) Show Disconnected Devices and Show Disabled Devices - check your mic - highlight them and then on lower right properties. 3) Make sure the proper one is enabled and check other settings - on Levels tab make sure MUTE is unchecked and APPLY / OK changes.

For Windows 7:

1) Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click “Recording devices”. 2) Right click on the blank place in the popped up window and then select “Show Disabled Devices” and “Show Disconnected Devices”. 3) Right click on Microphone and then click “Enable”. 4) Highlight the microphone and then choose “Set as Default Device”. 5) Click Apply. 6) Select Microphone and click on Properties. 7) Click on Levels tab. The default Microphone Boost is set to 0, increase it.

There is an option but you need to set it to display it.

Right click on the volume control on the task bar and click OPEN VOLUME CONTROL

Now click on OPTIONS and put a tick in the microphone box then click OK.
The screen will refresh and show your microphone option

Also check the recording options and make sure your microphone is selected as the input. for recording.

From there you will just need to alter the levels.

it might be a bad mic or it may be your mic settings
its worth looking into, try connecting a audio source to it when you are configuring it and have the volume control for the microphone (on the playback section) so that you can hear it when it starts working
