Samsung RS2545SH coils freezing

Over the last 2 weeks the cooling coils in the fridge have been freezing. I keep defrosting the fridge with a hair dryer and it works for another 2-3 days. From reading a bit it seems that the fridge may need to defrost itself, but where is the control for it or how can I check if it's broken or just has a bad contact somewhere?

I found a service guide for a similar Samsung fridge and it turns out that the electronic control of the whole fridge is located behind the fridge, and the voltage (120V) is being sent to the heating coil/fuse inside the fridge, but the coil is not working (resistance is infinite...coil is broken). Unfortunately, the defrost coil is physically together with the cooling coil and thus almost impossible to replace separately. In fact Samsung only sells it together as "ASSY EVAP-REF" part # DA96-00395C. Since Samsung has 5 year warranty on Evaporator (and this is part of it) I scheduled service to have the Evaporator replaced (I assume they'll have to cut the aluminum tubes and refill the fridge with R134a

Hey how's it going? I may have the info you need, but first I need you to go through a check list to see if there is a simple fix.
Check to see if there are any obstructions in the freezer drain (freezer drain located inside freezer compartment behind back panel lower right hand corner of the freezer coils) if there are obstructions or debris remove and clean with a mild dish washing detergent and water, check to see that water can drain freely. see if this helps.when the coils freeze is the ice flaky or is it frozen solid ice? if the ice is flaky it could mean that either the refridges/freezer door are left open to long "check your door gaskets or seals by closing the on a dollar bill if it pulls out easily with little to know resistance your door gaskets may need to be replaced. After you defrost the freezer coils did you notice if there was water in the condensor pan, if so good sign. (condensor pan: is the pan that collects the water that drips through the drain hole of the freezer compartment caused by the heating of the coil by the coil heater: water that enters the pan collects and is reused by the condensor fan by blowing warm air partly into the water and through the condensor coils causing them to cool.)if you still need to test your bi-metal therostat or your glass heater/ice pipe heater, you will need a multimeter and knowledge on the use of it.(IF YOU 'RE NOT NOT COMFORTABLE AROUND ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICITY PLEASE CONTACT A QUALIFIED REPAIR SERVICE AND REMEMBER TO UNPLUG APPLIANCE BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIRS) for more info on how to test please reply,Good Luck, be safe..

The self defrosing fridge freezer is freezing and leaking inside of fridge, 3 weeks ago I melted ice in freezer and drain with hair dryer, worked for 3 weeks, now freezes agin?

You have a problem with the defrost system. There 3 components... heater, thermostat, and timer or adaptive defrost control depending how old your refrig is. Check heater and thermostat( located on the evapotator coils) with an ohm meter. The heater will have some resistance and the thermostat will be closed(must be cold). If these check good replace timer or adaptive control.

Freezer not defrosting

You got the right idea. your fridge have a deforst problem, and it can be cause by a number of items. 1. the timer, 2 the defrost temperature control. 3 the defrost element itself.
Before you use the hair dryer when there is ice forming in the back panel, try to turn the timer and see wheather you can set it to defrost cycle manually if you can then the timer need to be change. the 2 and 3 item is a bit more work for normal people to deal with, you better call in a serviceman and watch him how he handle it so you can try it yourself next time. God Bless

Fridge part is not cooling; freezer is frosting up

your ref. has a defrost problem.you will need to take back panel off inside freezer and take your hair dryer again and defrost the system.then you can check your heater, thermostat which is located at top of coils that were defrosted.sometimes the thermostat will pop and not allow it to go into defrost and you need to check defrost timer.
