everytime I try to get my router up it says it cannot detect the internet

  • hagentx Oct 05, 2008

This really seems like my computer has been hijacked. I get the same message and switching the home page to something different, like www.yahoo.com doesn't work.

The ask. askredir doesn't even go to a real page, so it makes IE impossible to get into. It doesn't even allow you to escape from your home page (which now doesn't work)

Since my spy programs don't fix it, I can't download a better spyware or hijack program from the internet.

    Help!

Hmmm, reset your home page to something like google.com or yahoo.com. Then try again.

Are you trying to set up the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Netgear wifi router

1) does it lock up completely or will it work hard lined when wifi fails?
2) do all devices wireless fail or just a single device?
3) do you lose connection to the wireless completely or keep the connection but lose access to the internet? (confusing but very different to me)

in the end you could narrow down the problem but if you have already reset to factory defaults and set back up again and again then it may be time to retire that old router.

Hello, I have a d link dir 600 and everytime I loose the connection my dhcp gives the machine 192.168.2.xxx number when my network is set up with a 192.168.0.xxx subnet, from there I have to restart the...

Check if you have an other device on the network that has DHCP server enabled, (if not sure) do the following test... power down every device connected to your network (printers, print servers, Access points, switchs, internet modem, etc...) leave only the router and the computer connected, than reproduce the condition (cut of connection) see if the problem is still there, if not than plug back every device ONE AT A TIME than reproduce the condition each time you connect something untill you find which device is giving out IPs... if you find the problematic device, go in setup and desable DHCP, if it still does the problem only with the computer and the router connected than reset the router to factory default, if you still have the problem after that than replace the router...

Cheers!

During my linksys install, the software validates my connection and fails everytime. I do not have an adapter on the computer I am installing the software on. This PC has direct cable connection to...

You need to have the router connected directly to the computer to do this setup. If you are directly connected to the internet you cannot communicate with the router and most everything will fail. Remember to set wireless security on the router, give a ssytem name and consider setting channels to 11 or so to not compete with wireless home phones.

Setup won't go through - error

I had a similar problem, and how I fixed it, was I made sure the connection was working, so the pc end had right details, and then I turned it off, and then put in router, and when it started back up, it started up and connected straight away.

Computer says connected to internet,, wont display page

usually routers are setup using DHCP... on your second computer. try going to
start, control panel,  networkconnection,  "your LAN connection",\ properties Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (should be checked)
Obtained Ip address automatically should be selected
Obttained Dns server automatically should be selected.
then click OK, OK to save settings...

if your router is not setup as a DHCP,it would require you to setup your ip address manually... let me know if this dont work, so  i can help u setup manually...

if it helps, try comparing the settings of your pc1 and pc2 (the network connection settings)

Connection

try to do a power cycle. turn off everything. then turn on the modem first the the router (if you're using one) then the computers.
check if the cables are properly connected, try to use another cable for hardwired computers. for wireless computers, make sure that it's connecting to the correct wireless network and you are using the correct wireless password (wpa/wep)
if you want to check your wireless settings, just log in to your router's page by typing http://192.168.0.1 on the address bar of your web browser. by default the username is admin and there's no password. you will be prompted by the router's page, go to the wireless section and check the router settings are the same with what the wireless computers are using

hope this'll help you but if you still have a problem, just give me your network setup (i.e. brand of the modem, router, number of computers and if PCs are hardwired or wireless)

cioa!

D-link DGl-4100

I'm currently running the same setup(but no wireless). Things to ensure:

1. The DSL modem (not your router) must be set to bridged mode, not PPPoE. Your modem has a web interface that can be accessed via a direct ethernet connection between the pc and modem. After making this change, reconnect your modem to your router.

2. The router has to be configured to use PPPoE and the AT&T login username has to be the full email address. (Mine ends in bellsouth.net) Make sure that your password is entered correctly by checking the status page for an established connection.

Finally, power cycle your router and try to surf!

Can't connect one laptop

Ok this is a simple, but difficult fix at times. I need to know if the other laptop is used in and or outside of your home? In addition I need to know if you have security like a WEP or WPA setup? Do you have a home network setup using this router/modem? I may have other questions, but these I need to know in order to give you an exact answer!
