HI jeanne_27_ma.

This seems to be a problem with the corruption of file extensions,

In this case all you need to do , is download and install a program called as tweak ui from the below location ,

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-v2-a-tweak-ui-for-windows-7-vista

and then select the option of repair file extension associations and this should solve your problem.

Remember this trick whenever you have such problems ..:)

Hope this helps ...) Your feed back would be appreciated.

Have windows 7 on new computer, installed Adobe Pagemaker which is fine but want to turn files into PDF format, message say's no printer driver installed. Have tried to install but windows will not let...

the printer will need to be installed in compatibility mode....un-install the printer from control panel.
pain in the **** i know, but least you'll know from now on, how to install older programs & drivers in to windows 7....
if your installing from a disk, then put the disk in, then when the auto run box comes up, close it...
open computer instead from the start menu.
right click on the cd drive with the disk in, & select open.
drag & drop the contents of the disk on to your desktop....make a new folder to put it all in, if you need to.
then once it's copied across, right click on the install/application icon.
from the top of the menu click "check compatibility" if you dont see it,click off it & then try right clicking on it again untill you see it.
windows will scan & set itself to the right settings for that program.
then click try recommended settings.....followed by START PROGRAM.
if it all installs ok click next then click YES KEEP THESE SETTING FOR THIS PROGRAM NEXT TIME.
then go to the printers web site & update it with the latest software, thats if windows doesn't do it for you.....TIP:(white flag @ bottom right of screen)
do this with all older software.....windows 7 is **** hot when it comes to running older programs, im using a windows 98 program call photo express on mine...no problem.

GOOD LOOK MATE.

My laptop speaker is not working

Hi solomonowobu...
Right click on the speaker icon on your desktop and make sure the volume is up on your computer and not down in the muted position.
Left click on the speaker icon on your desktop:
A window opens and you will see two choices...select Volume control, when the window opens make sure none of the mutes are checked, if they are uncheck.
If this doesn't solve your problem you may have to download new audio drivers for your computer, and it that doesn't clear the problem, then you will need to send it to get repaired as it is a hardware problem.

I have an HP1110n....It acts like it is booting up, but I only see my screen background pic. No icons show up. The disk spins and is doing something, but it won't display ANY icons ! Help !

This happens when Explorer (the file manager - the program that makes all the files visible on the screen) doesn't starts at boot. Press Alt + Ctrl + Del to open Task Manager. Click File, click Run and type explorer. Click OK and the icons and the taskbar will appear. If it doesn't start or it's faulty in any way you will have to reinstall Windows.

My laptop model name is compaq preserio c700 (c772tu), Installed windows 7 Os after intallation it seems some error like driver compatibility error for display mobile intel (r) 965 chipset exprees ) could...

Please follow these steps..
Download the drivers for "display mobile intel (r) 965 chipset exprees". Unzip it. then open the folder. Navigate to the .EXE file (or setup.exe) for the program. Then...
Right click on the program file (the .EXE or .COM file).
Select Properties from the menu that pops up (#1).
Select the Compatibility Tab in the dialog.
Change the options so the program opens in Windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode.
Note the other options in the dialog as you may have to experiment a bit and change some of them as well (#2).
If this doesn't work, then try checking the "Run the program as an administrator" box (#3).
This defeats the security in Windows Vista however and should be a last resort.

I have totalmedia 3,5 arcsoft per windows vista, but i need to use it with windows 7. Could you help me? Thank you Gennaro

The router may not be the problem. It may be the compatibility issue.
Here is the article that addresses running older program with Windows 7
Make older programs run in this version of Windows

Most programs written for Windows Vista also work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run poorly or not at all. If a program written for an earlier version of Windows doesn't run correctly, you can try changing the compatibility settings for the program, either manually or by using the Program Compatibility troubleshooter.

getcontent.aspx?assetid=745c7204-cf9f-46fb-a86c-98d4b9c644cf&documentset=en-us&prod=win700&market=us Go to the Windows website to watch the video. (1:26)

If changing the settings doesn't fix the problem, go to the program manufacturer's website to see if there is an update for the program.
Warning

  • Do not use the Program Compatibility troubleshooter on older antivirus programs, disk utilities, or other system programs because it might cause data loss or create a security risk.

To run the Program Compatibility troubleshooter
  1. ?id=microsoft.windows.resources.shellexecutetopiciconClick to open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter.

  2. Follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.

If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the troubleshooter, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The troubleshooter is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.
Tip

  • You can also open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter by right-clicking a program's icon or shortcut and then clicking Troubleshoot compatibility.

To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the program icon, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab.

Hp director does not open when i click on the icon

Hi,

After installing (MS IE 7 or MS IE 8) browser on the computer that is connected to the HP product,This issue occurs on some HP products. The MS IE 7 or 8 browsers might be incompatible with HP Director
Follow these steps to use a workaround to open HP Director each time you use the software. These steps must be repeated each time you use HP Director.

1-Open HP Director using one of the following methods:
From the desktop : On your computer's desktop, look for the HP Director icon ( ), and then double-click it.
From the Windows taskbar : Click Start , click All Programs , click the HP or Hewlett-Packard folder, and then click HP Director .
Although HP Director does not appear to be open , it is open and loaded into the computer's memory, but it does not open in a new window as usual.
2-Without navigating to another open window, press Alt and Space bar at the same time.
The Shortcut menu displays near the top-left corner of the computer.
Figure 1: Shortcut menu

If the Shortcut menu does not open, repeat steps 1 and 2 until it does.
3-Select Minimize from the Shortcut menu.
HP Director displays (minimizes) as an item on the taskbar (the row of open software programs that appears at the bottom of the desktop screen).
If HP Director does not minimize, click Minimize again until it does.
4-Click the HP Director icon on the taskbar ( ). The software opens and functions normally. NOTE: The HP Director window and icons might appear larger than normal, but the software is functional.

5-Repeat Steps 1 through 4 every time you use HP Directo
