Now, I do not know ....excuse my blondness ... but my discs have all been installed by others ... i think i could take care of this if you mentioned how to slip it into the computer brains...i know it goes in my hP Pavillion home PC. I see two slots: hpcd writer must be the one; then there is expansion bay. Do i just put those in .... do I need to go to a setup area on the computer, or does it just tudor me through. Check if you received a software disc for the fax machine portion . If not go out to canon USA web site and look up software and downloads. You should find and download the fax software, which is required to make you machine work.

It should walk you through installation once you insert the disc. Depending on how old the software is, you may still want to go out to canon, and check with support about updates, and if you are using vista operating system on your computer, you will have to download software for vista. Other than that you should be good to go. I like to give just enough information to let folks kind of work their way through these problems, because they will pop up again and if you do it all your self you will remember and it will be much easier next time.

Epson Stylus CX5700f I have just setup fax. I am having problems receiving faxes and telephone calls

You need to do two more steps.

1. contact the phone company about distitive ring. This will have a different ring for incoming faxes.
2. set the fax up for distitive ring once the phone company sets you up. This will cause the fax only to answer when another fax is calling, due to the distictive ring set up.

I cannot receive faxes on my lexmark X4270. It will ring but nothing come through

Please go through the following checklists:
  • Make sure the that the fax line is working. To check, insert a telephone device straight to the fax line. You should get a dial tone.
  • Make sure the telephone cord from the phone jack in the wall is plugged into the Line port on the back of your Lexmark printer.
  • Assign the correct fax number on the printer.
  • If you have an answering machine connected to the same line as the fax, set the answering machine to answer incoming calls before the printer does. Increase the number of rings by a factor of 3 over the answering machine. For example, if the answering machine is set to pick up on 4 rings, set the printer to pick up on 7 rings.
  • If you have a voicemail feature in the same line as the fax, you may subscribe from your phone service provider for a distinctive ring pattern feature. You can program your printer to have a distinctive ring pattern and phone number for incoming faxes.
If these don't help, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Cannot send or receive faxes

Use the HP Fax Test
The telephone number for this service is 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). The fax service receives faxes and returns faxes within 5 to 7 minutes to the number contained in the fax header. Solution two: Run a fax diagnostic test
  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  2. Press the Setup button (c01669474.gif ) on the product control panel.
  3. Press the right arrow (c01669475.gif ) to select Tools , and then press OK .
  4. On the Tools menu, press the right arrow (c01669475.gif ) to select Run Fax Test , and then press OK . The fax diagnostic test prints.
Solution three: Check the telephone line and change the HP fax settings Step one: Test the telephone line
  1. Disconnect the telephone cord from the back of the HP fax product.
  2. Figure 1: Two-wire telephone cord c01501963.gif
  3. Pick up the handset of the telephone and check for a dial tone.
  4. On the single-line telephone, dial the fax number of the receiving fax machine.
    • If the receiving fax machine answers the call, continue with the next step.
  5. Hang up the single-line telephone.
  6. Use a second telephone line or a cellular telephone to call the telephone number assigned to the HP fax product.
Step two: Change the HP fax settings
  1. Connect phone line into line 1
  2. Press the Setup button (c01669474.gif ) on the product control panel.
  3. Press the right arrow (c01669475.gif ) to select Basic Fax Setup or Advanced Fax Setup , and then press the right arrow (c01669475.gif ) again to change the menu option settings to the settings listed in the following table. Fax menu Fax menu option Setting Basic Fax Setup Rings to Answer 1 or 2 (At least one more ring than a telephone answering machine, if an answering machine is connected.) Advanced Fax Setup Answer Ring Pattern All Rings
  4. Use the HP Fax Test Service to try to send and receive a fax.
If the HP fax product still cannot send or receive a fax, continue to the next solution. Solution four: Check VoIP digital telephone line Using a VoIP telephone service can cause faxing to fail because fax transmissions are sensitive to the timing of the signals used to transmit the fax. If using a VoIP digital line is necessary, changing the Fax Speed Adjustment setting to Medium might improve the ability to send a fax over a VoIP telephone line. Use these steps to change the fax speed adjustment to a lower speed.
  1. Press the Setup button (c01669474.gif ) on the product control panel.
  2. Press the right arrow (c01669475.gif ) to select Advanced Fax Setup , and then press OK .
  3. Press the right arrow (c01669475.gif ) to select Fax Speed , and then press OK .
  4. Press the right arrow (c01669475.gif ) to select Medium , and then press OK .
  5. Use the HP Fax Test Service to try to send and receive a fax.

Firstly yes your telephone number is used as your Fax number.

Your phone line connections sound ok, so the problem must be with your fax machine. If it's a combined Fax/Printer make sure you select Fax mode.

I have a printer fax combined and I cannot receive faxes

Try to check your telephone line connections. Is your printer fax connected to a telephone line? If it does read the users manual how to install the printer and ask the sales agent for telephone connections. They will set up it for you.

Fax network not working

Is your phone line plugged into the proper receptical on the fax? It should be plugged into the LINE slot, not the PHONE slot. The PHONE SLOT IS TO CONNECT A TELEPHONE TO THE FAX. IT IS NOT FOR THE INCOMING PHONE LINE. If your phone connection is correct, try calling your fax machine from a cell phone while you are at the fax machine. Listen on the cell to see if the fax machine picks up the line. If it does not, go into your fax machine's settings, either INITIAL SETUP FAX SETUP, or PHONE SETTINGS. You may have to try several settings to find one that works, depending on your fax machine. Try going to RECEIVE SETUP on your fax machines setup menu. Scroll through the settings, writing each down on paper. Try RING DELAY, RING TIME, NUMBER OF RINGS TO ANSWER , or any other settings relating to how your fax answers the phone line. Try changing each setting, one at a time, and try calling your fax to see if it answers. There may also be settings on your fax to set it up if an answering machine or telephone is on the same line.
