If possible, use a second CD player/burner to burn a CD. If can't borrow one, either internal or external (USB), they are fairly cheap second hand. I suspect your CD player has become defective, maybe only in burn mode. Can you burn anything (eg, software) using this item ? ie is it only iTunes that's affected ?
what error are you getting, you may be using the wrong speed of CD's. what type of information are you trying to burn? Data? music? try a different program, you can go to http://infrarecorder.org/?page_id=5 and download the free program and try with that.
Try testing the CD first. There are reports that this error will occur but still produce a functional CD.
Next try reducing the write speed, this will fix the problem in some cases.
Next try burning with CD with a different program like Nero. iTunes appears to be a problematic application for this error.
It is possible that the CD burner is near the end of it's life.
I think it might have to do with Toshiba's OEM version of windows that is put onto the laptop. There is so many programs installed normally that i think theres system files that are incompatible with certain programs that require them. Probably a retail version of windows then installing just the drivers for the hardware and install just the software you want would take care of the problem in that way.
In the meantime though my other suggestion would be to use a program like Nero or Roxio Media Creator to burn your music onto cd's. That could do the trick.
