Open the case and look to see if the part is actually broken or just unsnapped from the case

How do I fix a cellphone that won't charge at all when it is plugged in. I've tried turning it off, taking the battery out, and everything.

It could be a problem with the female usb port on your phone. Try shining a light inside where you plug it in and see if there is anything there. Here are a few phones with the female ports where you plug in your charger.
25894004-w32j5maowckw4u0pbavragxd-2-0.png Use something like a toothpick to clean out inside there. If you use something too hard, it can damage the inside of the port.

If there is nothing in there, it could be the cord. Have you tried multiple cords and cubes (wall adapters)? Here is the iPhone version, but really all that changes is the business end of the charging cord, so it still applies.
25894004-w32j5maowckw4u0pbavragxd-2-1.jpg If you have tried multiple combinations of cords and wall adapters, then it might be that the charging port on your phone is broken and needs repairing. A sign of this being the case could be the cable being able to wiggle around too much when plugged into the phone.

If these other solutions do not work, you may need to replace the female micro/mini usb port in your phone, which could be above your skill set and you may need to hire a professional, or someone who knows their way around a soldering iron.

Dropped SmartDisk

Depending upon how hard the jar was to the internal mechanism, the data may be salvageable. I would guess that the first problem is broken connections at the USB connector. This case is just snapped together with a laptop drive in it. Carefully open it up and look for anything broken.

Worse case scenerio, you can get an adapter to plug the drive into a standard IDE cable inside your tower system.

How do I connect the mouse?

212
i am assuming you have a usb mouse and a PS2 connection on the computer. If this is the case then you need a female usb to ps2 mouse adapter
So that the mouse cable plugs into the USB female connection and the male ps/2 plug end goes int othe female ps2 port on the computer.
If this is the case you have the wrong converter the chester will convert a ps/2 on the mouse or keyboard to a usb on the back of the computer.. Can you tell us what sort of mouse you are trying to connect does the end of the cable have a usb plug on it a bit like the blue usb plug in your picture.
If this is the case then you need a female usb to ps2 mouse adapter
Google it and see the difference.

On my smartdisk firelite the conection that excepts the usb cable has broken. I need data thats on the hard drive how would I get this info off the firelite?

you can open the case and remove the hard drive and install it in a new external usb case for it.
you can find out what type of case you need after you open it. it could be either a SATA connection or IDE.
If it is a SATA and you got a SATA cable/power you could also just install it directly into your computer and grab the files you need.

The 5v power pin on the AC adapter of my SmartDisk Crossfire external hard drive has been broken. How do I get a replacement AC Adapter?

Take your SmartDisk to any computer-store.

They can open the case, remove the disk-drive,
and mount the disk-drive in a new "empty" external casing,
with a new power-supply.
See: http://www.canadaram.com/3_5_sata_enclosures.htm
for a sample of various "empty" cases, for about $30.

My firelite smartdisk model cord does not fit into my new macbook air. can i buy a cord that has a usb port at one end? thx

The MacBook Air has one USB port. Most computer stores have many different plugs on the other end that will fit your SmartDisk. Most of the SmartDisk units use the mini USB plug. It is the same as many digital cameras use.

Tiger Direct, and MicroCenter also have many different adapters, and adapter kits to use on all kinds of USB devices.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if there are any more questions.

Broken USB Connector (Garmin nuvi 200)

USB connectors are too fragile for the constant in-out service they get. But I have solved the problem, at least for standard Type A. The plug end (its steel case slips into the port end's steel case) is functionally female; it accepts the 4-pin tongue of the port and squeezes it between the 4-pin tongue of the plug end and the steel case of the plug end. So when the plastic tongues wear down, the squeeze isn't tight enough. Solution: take a small vise-grips and make the plug's steel case a little thinner, like a weight on a grilled cheese sandwich you're making. Then when you plug it in, it will resist a bit and feel tighter. And it will now work!

Smartdisk Firelite 80GB-Stopped Working

I had the same problem with my firelite usbflb80-c, and carefully took the case off, 4 screws (one screw under the void if broken warranty sticker) my drive had somehow wiggled it's way out if the connection pins. Figures, with 5 yrs of use, all the traveling and occasional dropping. So I carefully pushed the drive back in place until I couldn't see connection pins any more. I plugged it into my computer before I closed it back up. THANKFULLY an easy fix, but I double checked for breaks or cracks before I closed it up. :o) YAY, I thought I had lost all my files!
