Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I bought a used laptop and I tried to connect it to isp and i used the cd that i recieved with my service. But when i try to install it it says i need nt6 because i only have nt1. how do i get this nt6

I think that the laptop is running Windows NT with Service Pack 1 installed, and the software that you are trying to install requires Windows NT with Service Pack 6 installed.

However, the _bigger_ issue is that Microsoft stopped supporting Windows NT (at any level of Service Packs) several years ago. Therefore, any computer running Windows NT that connects to the Internet is likely to get "hacked" within a few minutes of being connected.

So, my advice is to either "junk" the laptop, or try to find a "Microsoft Windows 2000 Upgrade" CD-ROM and license-key, and update your computer to use Windows 2000. However, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 2000 in July 2010, i.e., just a few months away.

If you really want "Service Pack 6", find a friend with a CD-writer and Internet access. Access http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and search for 'SP6A' -- download it, burn it to a CD-R, and carry the CD-R disk to your computer, and install it.
Then, run "Windows Update" -- there are many security-fixes that will be required, even after installing 'SP6A'.

Also, you might have difficulty finding anti-virus software that runs under Windows NT !!!!

How can i upgrade from Windows XP to WIndows 7?

Hey, just use Zinstall XP7. It can upgrade to Windows 7 and keep your programs and files and everything. No reason to stay on XP, I think - 7 is awesome

Upgrade NEC Versa VX

You can insert the Windows XP CD while logged on Win 98 and run a test from the CD. Obviously you need a larger Hard Disk and at least 126 MB RAM to bring XP to a usable speed. You can look for RAM upgrade options in this page.

Need Instructions on this...

In order to upgrade to XP with a fresh install, you will need to purchase an XP disc, then it's simple. Upon start up you need to go to the boot menu or set the cd drive to boot before the hard drive in the bios. Then insert the disc and follow the directions. At one point, you will need to delete the existing operating system in order to install the new. Once this is done, then you will need to format the drive using the full NTFS format, not the quick format. Then it's all down hill, just follow the direction. After the install, you will need to go to Compaq's support site and download any drivers needed. You can find the needed drivers in the device manager. I realize you would like to get around the XP purchase, but unfortunately, there's no way around it.

The hard option. ..

how user un-friendly is it?
Is what? NT or the XP install?

The XP install is pretty simple. My daughter did her own install the first time when she was 17 and even though she's my kid, she's not a geek by any means (if it's on MySpace she knows it inside out, but not much beyond that).
I even sent some basic instructions to my 78 yr old father, and he was able to do it.

The NT install is serious geek install. It even give me headaches.

I'll dig around and see if I can find a step by step for the XP install. I know they have some somewhere.

Xp is not offcial

Please expalin.
I know you can Upgrade to XP at a discount from NT (actually it works from any pervious version of Windows to XP) but there is no Update from NT to XP.
I've been doing IT work for a long time, and I am a registered Microsoft Partner, and I have never heard of an Update to XP.

If you do mean upgrade to XP, here's how I would do it.
Get a copy of XP (preferably Pro, the upgrade version is fine, and you can still fine it a number of places). What they don't tell you about upgrade versions is that it is a full copy of XP, that just have a sequence that need the previous key to continue.
Use the XP disk to format, and begin the load.
During the install, it will ask for the qualified version of Windows you are upgrading from. You put in the NT CD, and it will continue the install (you just have to swap CD's back and forth a couple of times).
The previous version does not need to be installed.

If the NT is the only disk you have, and you don't want to purchase the XP upgrade, there is a whole process that you have to go through.
You do have to create 3 floppies that have the boot and load sequence.
This is not a real user friendly install, but it can be done.

I personaly would spend the time and money to find a copy of XP. Here again, your end product is going to be something you are much happier with.

you'll need to go to SAFE mode, or boot from the install disk, which ever is most accessible.

Upgrade usb1.1 to usb2.0

If you don't have the 2.0 hardware, the drivers won't do any good. Tthe 1.1 will still work, and is not noticably slower.
