Batteries As a new owner and a relative camera novice, what is a firmware update and can it solve my misleading battery indicator reading or make my rechargables last even for a reasonable amount of time please?! Thanks Dave K

Lithium AA batteries will make a HUGE difference in the amount of pictures you can take before you need to replace. Don't bother with the firmware update for the battery indicator until you've switched over to the Lithium batteries. They are relatively inexpensive (like $7 for a 2 pack) and it will make a world of difference!!

Firmware update is a update through a usb cable to update camera software internally from manuf website-try a set of energizer lithium batts in camera-not rechargable but i get over 500 pics on sngle set-some cameras won't register accurate bat levels or work well with recharables

Getting an error code E 45

Hi,
Error 45 in your camera clearly indicates it is related to a lens issue. Something has caused the lens to jam or stop working. When it does you get the E45 error you have to update the firmware and the error should go away.
Thank you !!

Will not power on. ive put in new aa batteries

Try this:
- remove the batteries
- wait more than 60 seconds
- reinstall (fresh/charged) batteries

Mine was exhibiting the same problem ... it would start to power on, but died as soon as the lens began any motion at all. It would power up fine on AC power, or on the dock. I was going to install new firmware on the camera to try to fix the problem. Reading the firmware installation instructions indicated that, to complete the firmware upgrade, the batteries would need to be removed for at least 60 seconds, which I'm guessing forces the camera into some sort of deeper reboot/restart.

I keep getting a card not initialized error

Usually formatting the card will solve this:
Menu/OK / Setup / Format.
But if you are using the newer H or M type card, you may need to update the camera firmware.
The new firmware can be downloaded here:
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/download/camera/firmware/
I haven't tried this update on batteries. The camera will prompt you to use an AC adapter during the update. IF you are allowed to make the update on batteries, make sure the batteries are fresh.

Nikon L100 shows battery exhausted error message after installing new batteries. Unable to perform any operations on camera

That's the bug in Nokin L100, update the firmware version from 1.0 to 1.1, this will solve the battery exhaust problem. Firmware version 1.0 has only 2 battery (Alkaline and Lethium) option where as Firmware version 1.1 has Nickle battery also. But, to update the firmware you need to have EH-67 AC Adapter to give power to the camera.

I can help you fix the BUSY Error or Error 99 of your Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D.

Installation of this Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update will solve these problems:
  1. Some cameras may exhibit a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor does not display, the shutter does not release, and the BUSY indication remains lit in the viewfinder.
  2. The message, "Err 99 Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to<OFF> and <ON> again or re-install the battery", appears on the camera's LCD monitor, and after the above operation is carried out,the LCD monitor displays in a language that is different from the actual language setting.
See the firmware instructions and download the firmware upgrade by following these Fixya Tips :

  1. Follow this link to download a pdf version of the firmware installation instruction guide.
  2. Follow this link to download the Windows Version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  3. Follow this link to download the MAC version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  4. Follow this link to download the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D Instruction Manual.

I hope that helps.

A735 / A835 SERVICE NOTICE: BATTERY INDICATOR METER
Dear GE Valued Customer,

"memory car is write protected"

Turn off camera
Take battery/batteries out.
Take out memory card (you may lose data)
Make sure write protection switch is in OFF position
Replace memory card
Replace battery/batteries properly.
Turn on camera.

If this doesn't work then you may want to simply contact manufacturer, some are very helpful and some even offer free tech support for older products.

Optio S40- ON/OFF failure

I see that the S40 uses AA batteries. I have been reading on many of these forums about the regular alkaline batteries causing "strange" problems with digital cameras. My suggestion is (if you are not already doing it) is to get some 2000ma - 2500ma NiMH rechargeable batteries and a charger. This will probably solve your problem.
