Re: On my DC18 there is no suction at the wand.I took it...
- I actually answered a question just like this the other day. On the DC18 the switch is automatic. When the vacuum is upright the suction is automatically to the hose.
- When you tilt the handle back the suction is automatically to the floor.
- If you took things apart and cleaned them and have no suction through the hose when the vacuum in the upright position then this is a manufacturers defect.
- The way I know this is for the other persons issue I called Dyson directly because I wanted to see why I could not see a switch and they told me there was none, it was automatic.
- Here is the good news. Dyson offers a full 5 year warranty and the DC18 has only been out for 4 years. So every DC18 on the market is still under a full warranty.
- What Dyson told me is this. Contact Dyson and they will see if their is a repair center near you and if so then you can drop it off there for a 100% free warranty repair.
- If there is no repair shop in your area then they will ship it both ways and repair it 100% free on Dyson.
- Here is there contact information.
- Here is the link to choose the country should you be outside the USA. http://www.dyson.com/ If you choose that link the when the page loads got to the lower right of the screen to the fine print and click on "contact us" and the information will show up.

How does it provide suction to the lower unit? Does it block a port, does it change the suction differential? Also the upright lock has something do do with it not working.
Thanks,
John
Is there a spool valve at the bottom which switches suction from the bottom to the wand?
Thanks,
john
I took the filter out and it still doesn't have no suction to the wand. I then took the wand hose off and shifted (with my finger)the white plastic step piece inside where the wand hose plugs and the suction to the bottom head diminished. The white plastic spool seemed free when I shifted it was with my finger and the internal spring returned it when my finger was removed.
Thanks John
