Replacing dell latitude keyboard

Hi...rather than replacing several loose keys on a dell laptop, I chose to replace the keyboard. I can separate the case halves except for right in the middle in the back, the section with all the ports and right above the ram. Can you give me any hints as to how to finish opening the case? this is a dell latitude d505. thanks for any help you can offer. Bruce

Some keys on a Dell Latitude E4310 laptop are not working

I would suggest you call Dell Support and get the laptop replaced. If any of the keys are not working, it is not a good idea to manually open the key board and try to fix.
Hope this helps
Thanks

The Keyboard is fault down one track. You could plug in a usb keyboard as a temporary measure or buy a replacement off ebay for about £25.00, its quite easy to replace the keyboard.

My 2 w s x keys on my laptop are not working any

i remember several years back - i was a network admin for an electrical co-op, and we purchased multiple dell latitudes. several months later, the wsx row of keys began to go out on several of the laptops. it's a known issue, and it's not the keyboard - it's the mainboard. sorry.

Keyboard problem in Dell Latitude PPX C Family

Actually this is a common problem with these Dell's. I have never found a cure for it other than replacing the keyboard. Fortunally they are not expensive, you can usually get one off of eBay for around $20 or so.

Hope this helps

Several keys not working.

If the keys aren't loose, you may need to replace the keyboard.

You can find the service manual from the Dell website and the keyboard part from eBay.

B key on my Dell Latitude popped off

Generally, once a key pops off a portable keyboard the keyboard needs to be replaced. It is pretty simple to replace and not too expensive.

Here is an example of a replacement on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KEYBOARD-DELL-8500-500M-Latitude-D505-D600-D800_W0QQitemZ250338315590QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item250338315590&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

To replace the keyboard, just remove the hinge cover, take out the screws for the keyboard and lift the keyboard to release the cable connector.

Keyboard

This is a rather old question, but the solution might still be helpful to other readers.

I suggest you call Tech Support at Dell...

Several years ago, I worked on many Dell CPx 500 models in my work place. There was an issue that always involved a series of 4 or 5 keys (they were always the same keys) that would quit working and we had attempted to purchase new keyboards to fix the issue. It turned out, the real solution was to replace the 'motherboard' of the Latitude notebook!

Dell had knowledge about the keyboard/motherboard issue that we didn't know.
