I can't seem to retreive deleted text messages from a old phone of mine that's turned off.

Deleted text messages are not retrievable from a phone with no service. The texts are actually housed on the service providers servers and therefore, when the service is disconnected, they are usually removed from the server. If you require them, say for some legal matter, you can request copies of the text messages from the service provider for a period of up to 6 months. I hope this helps.

Only if have your text messages sync to your email or if your provider saves them under your account details online. Otherwise,..I am sorr to say, there is not a trash option on the Ericsson.
