Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have an Onkyo SR550 receiver (included in the HT-SR800 home theater system) that has performed flawlessly for 2-3 years. About 6 months ago I noticed infrequent sound drop outs whenever digital inputs are connected - receiver does not do this. Recently, the drop outs are more frequent as the set warms up - to the point any playback from DVD or the TV are not acceptable. What gives - is there an easy fix? Since it is out of the warranty period I'm guessing I need to find a replacement, hopefully without the potential of this same problem reappearing. Your expert opinion, please.

SOURCE: I have an Onkyo HT-S6100 home theater not sending picture to TV.

I just fixed mine with the same problem. Apparently, the HT-R667 and 606 receiver that comes with 6100 has a problem with the HDMI board. Onkyo wanted $500 dollars to fix it, costed me $16. Here's how to fix it. http://www.highdefforum.com/high-definition-receivers-recorders-players-tivos/121956-repairing-onkyo-htr667-aka-606-a.html

Remote control failure with Onkyo HT-SR800

If you have several audio/video devices, which is probably the case if you have this system, you might consider buying a Logitech Harmony All in One remote.

I got one as a present - it now controls all my devices intelligently and is fully programmable to switch all boxes to the correct settings for a particular activity with one button. It connects to a pc with a simple but sophisticated GUI to set up, and codes for hundreds of devices are available and automatically downloaded.

Brilliant, and my wife can now use our systems without having to ask me what to do! It even has an on screen help function.

No sound with ps3, connected to a 7.1 av receiver & projection tv

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.

Onkyo HT-SR800 won't turn on

If you call Onkyo directly, 201-785-2600, there is a procedure to "reset" the system, something like holding the power button on and holding down another button for a few seconds. Can't remember which, so I can't be sure, but try giving them a call.

Cutting off and stayin in Stand by mode

To me it sounds like you might have blown a channel(s). The speakers that you are using with unit, did they come with it? If not you need to check the ohms of the speakers. It looks like the Onkyo HT-SR800 can only handle a minimum of 8 ohms. If your unit is under warranty definately send it in for repair

Surround sound

It must be about the sound quality need of your amplifier. The sound processor simply needs to get clear signals from sources such as fm/am receiver, dvd/cd players etc. in order to manage'em to give you the optimum surround sound. If the fm receiver has an "FM MUTE" option, I recommend that you turn it on. By doing so, you'll receive only good quality fm stations, furthermore your amplifier will let you get surround sound. The second issue you mentioned has its own answer inside. Use a "new" cd player, you can get optical cables, digital coax cables to improve the performance if you like..
