Canon powershot s410 problem

On vacation I turned on my camera to take a picture and the lens opened normally, but then all of the sudden it closed made a strange beeping sound. Now it will not open and just makes the beeping sound when I try to turn it on. It also says E18 on the viewfinder. Can you help me?

Hello there,
The E18 error is related to the LENS not able to retract fully. If it is still under warranty, I would advise you bring it to the nearest service center. This is to avoid further damages. Otherwise, you can try a few things below.
There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Turn it on and then off. Spray canned air around the lens.
If trick 1 will not work out, try this.
2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn on the camera and then give it a couple of firm whacks on the side. Make sure nothing is blocking the lens and wait for it to fully retract.
Let me know how it goes.

Take a look inside your camera's CF card slot. I suspect that you may have a bent pin in there. If so, don't fret. Although professional repair would be more costly than the value of the camera, there is a very good chance that you can repair this yourself. Please see this link.

By the sounds of it you have a bad chip on your camera system board. If the image records okay and displays okay after the image is recorded. Other than having your camera repaired you may have to use your camera as is.

Can't take pictures

If the lens is buzzing and followed by an "E18" or "lens error" message then the lens will need to be replaced. If no message appears you may just have flat batteries or even a single bad battery can cause this. Try getting some good quality disposable batteries specifically for digital cameras. If all is well with the new ones, invest in a new set of rechargeables.

Canon Powershot S410: cannot turn it on

personally, I would ring Canon and ask for some idea of what might be the problem, and go from there. I assume it is out of guarantee, otherwise I would certainly have it back to them under guarantee. However, it can cost more than a new one to get repaired in some cases if out of guarantee. It could be as simple as needing some contacts cleaning of grease in the battery housing - try cleaning this first is one of the most obvious.
