Your hub ma have been a older version of USB and the new computer has the USB ver2. in this case the hub is not talking to the computer. the computer USB is not backward compatible and will to detect the hub. you will need a new hub.

I just had the same problem and was able to figure our a permanent fix.Judging by the date of you post, I'm guessing you've already remedied this problem one way or another. But just in case you haven't or someone else is having the same problem, I'll go ahead and post what to do. First, make sure you leave the USB hub plugged in right now so that Device Manager lists what it thinks is the Bluetooth device. Go into Control Manager > Hardware & Sound > Device Manager. Right click on Bluetooth device that is showing up in error. From the dropdown box, select Properties. Click the Driver Tab. Click Uninstall. Check "Delete the driver software for this device." Click OK. Unplug your USB hub for a few seconds, then plug it back in. Windows should now recognize it as a "Generic USB hub." You should be good to go. Just remember not to install that update again or try to update the driver for the Generic USB hub. If you do, you'll end up with the same problem. I hope this helps someone out there.

This device should be recognized automaticaly by the OS. There are some issues with Windows 7, though.
Make sure you are trying to plug it in a 2. USB port, rather than 1.1. This might cause you trouble (even though this will not be a problem if you have a new computer)
Connect the hub to the external powercord. Sometimes it is not recognized because the hub cannot drain enough energy from the port.
if you are using a desktop pc, make sure it is plugged in the rear usb ports and not at the ones up front.

Connecting campus wide networking to hub

Hi,

Check the following:

Hardware First: Is Vista confirming LAN connection onn that PC, or is it showing disconnected cable?

Is the connection properties showing at least 100Mbps?
Are the RJ45 terminals okay?
Is the driver for the network card recognized by Vista and loaded?

If that is fine, then check the following in the network properties:

1. The IP address you are using
2. The gateway address: it must be the same as the gateway address in the other PCs accessing internet. Run and check
3. The Subnet mask. Use 255.255.255.0
4. HAve you Setup the Nework using the Setup Wizard, including Access INTERNET THROUGH A HUB THROUGH ANOTHER COMPUTER ON MY NETWORK?

Check those things and let us know. Ask for help from your network administrator about correct IP addresses on that LAN

Connecting 2 PCs Via the D-Link Hub

Hi Ajog,

Those Ips look good. Make sure the Subnet on both is 255.255.255.0. Since they are both getting to the internet, I assume the Gateway IP is correct.

On the 192.168.1.3, got to Start>Run and type in CMD. A black window will open, and type in PING 192.168.1.65. You should get four responses. If you don't, you probley have a firewall issue.

Do that same on the 192.168.1.65 machine, back to the 192.168.1.3 machine.

On the XP machine, follow these instruction, just skip down to Step 9.
http://www.geekgirls.com/windowsxp_home_network.htm

Vista gets a little tricker, but not bad. To setup the network on the Vista machine, go here, ad click on the Network icon.
Great link to save to your desktop!

Using the network wizards should setup your firewalls to allow File and Printer Sharing.

Good luck
