Problem with new color wheel

Did you ever get the issue with your Samsung DLP resolved? I just replaced my color wheel and am having issues. Did you end up removing the jumper? Is it the little black thing around the two pins? How hard was it go get out? I've been pulling at it with tweezers and can't get it out. Did you change the CCA settings too?

Hi, thanks for your response. I'm having the same issues as you. After reading a little more, I'm thinking mine doesn't have the jumper. I think it's a piece that covers the 2 pins that are just under the label on the back of the TV when the cover is off. I do have a piece of paper with a bunch of CCA settings, but I'm afraid to do anything with it. I can give you the numbers if you'd like to try them. I don't know that they apply to all color wheels though.

I have something you might want to try on your TV. I did it and it helped with the darkness issues. Go into the service menu and go to the Index Delay. There will be a red bar at the bottom, you want to get that as red as you can. As it gets too high or too low, it will start to be a faint red. Play with it a little and try to get it to it's reddest point. I think mine was originally set to 38 and I moved it up to 48, and now it looks quite a bit better.

No I am still having issues with my color (mostly dark shadows and black). I never did pull out the jumper, I was never exactly sure which part it was, and the part that I though was the jumper would not come out. I did not change the CCA setting because I removed the sticker from the color wheel with the numbers on it. I can get the screen with all of the CCA numbers on it, but I have no idea where to start to change any of those numbers. I have tried looking for the CCA numbers but have had no luck finding them. If you have them, if there is any way to forward them to me that would be a great help. I am almost ready to call a technician to come out to try to fix the color.

I will try anything at this point. I am tired of watching an HDTV with bad color. Those pins sound like the same ones on my TV. I gave up pulling on them because I was afraid I would break something. If you don't mind you can e-mail the CCA numbers to me at and I will check them out. I am not sure why each color wheel would have different numbers but it is worth a try.

Not a color wheel is correct, more likely a DMD which is rather pricy and almost as much as the entire light engine which comes with it.

If you have had this unit for awhile it could just be the lamp. If the image does'nt brighten up you may have an issue with the light path. The color wheel produces the color. If there was an issue with the color wheel you would most likely have a black and white image.

I own a Samsung HL-R5067W 50'' DLP. Set is about 3 years old. Recently I heard a loud pop while viewing, picture distorted, but never went blank. I turned set off. When turned on again a loud whining noise...

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.

TV won't stay on

Hello Fonzell!
Regarding the tv turning, my question is, do you hear a clicking sound? if so, it's most probable tio be your ballast, that might not have enough voltage to keep on with your lamp, and that's why it shuts off.
You could try replacing it and seeing if it resolves your issue, I believe they're running around 70 dlls..
have a great one ! :)

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
