Re: water and ice has a funny taste
THANKS FOR YOU QUERY JACK.FIRSTLY DEPENDING ON HOW OLD THE APPLIANCES IS MOST MANUFACTURES USE THE SAME OR SIMALAR WATER FILTER SO THAT WILL BE YOUR BEST BET TO CHECK WITH THEM.NORMALY WEN THE ICE AND WATER TASTE FUNNY I HAVE FOUND THAT IT IS WHAT WE CALL ICE BURN AND THAT IS NORMALY WHEN THE ICE HAS GONE STALE OR IS STANDING FOR A LONG TIME TO SOLVE THAT IT IS BEST THAT YOU USE THE ICE UP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.HOPE THAT THIS SOLVES YOUR PROBLEM.

I have seen this one other time in all my years of appliance repair and changing out the "water inlet valve" corrected the problem. I don't have an answer to why it did, but it did. Here is the valve for your unit. After you change the valve be sure to purge the water line for a good 5 - 10 mins to get all the nasty water out. Keep me posted!
When your water starts tasting funny and you can see some kind of particles in the ice, then it means the water filter is dirty and needs to be changed. Try to get the water filter replaced and the funny taste will stop.
If you are having some kind of lime taste or mud taste, or lime deposits or mineral deposit, is simply means you will have to replace the water line and reservior.
Hope this helped.
All the best
Did you run water through the new filter before you installed the line going to the refrigerator???? Some time if you don't do that you will get some residue from the carbon filter. and that will leave a funny taste. I would make a couple of more batches of ice and throw them out and then try a taste test of the new batch. That should take care of the taste.
Hello there: Normally you dont want to use a used filter cause all of the contaminates are still iin the used filter Now if you use a new filter the first few batches of ice will have a funny taste to it This is due to the water going thru the new filter once the filter has had a couple of hours of filtration on it it will return back to the normal tasting ice ok Hope this is very helpful for you Best regards michael
The 650 does not have a filter built into the unit. Any filter would be on the supply line to unit, usually in the basement below the unit, or under the kitchen sink. Do you use alot of ice? If not you may want to empty the bucket every few weeks to let it produce fresh ice.
You may consider pulling out the ice maker and tossing it in the trash if you look at it and see that where the ice sits it's corroded or its close to a 10 year old in age (IT'S DUE TO GO OUT ANYWAY).Other than that:you have a 3% chance that the tube that goes to your ice maker is bad.
