If it was me I would be. Depending upon his computing skills he could access your computer's data and use up your Internet download allocation then you will be charged with extra fees.

How can I remove my neighbor from my network

Easiest thing to do, Change the password to your router. Once this is done, it will prevent your neighbor from any further access to your router and of course prevent internet access. Most all routers are simply a local web address for access. Example: 192.168.1.1 typed inside a browser address pane will take you inside the router. Check your router for setup procedures.

Have a great night..

I am aolder mother, I have a reader, and my son gave me a linksys wireless and I don't know how to hook it up and I need a password that I don't know thanks Lynette Bigler

Physically connecting the wireless router is the easy part, configuring it can be difficult unless you know what you're looking for.

The physical part:
Depending on the type of internet connection you've purchased from your ISP, you will have a coaxial cable or a telephone cord going into a modem provided by your ISP. That modem should have an ethernet or network port on it. You need to plug an ethernet cable into that port and plug the other end into the WAN or Internet port on you wireless router. You should now have internet connection from the wireless router. Try scanning for available networks on your wireless device and see what comes up. If you see one that says Linksys then this may be yours(could be your neighbors depending on how close they are to you). You could also plug a network cable into the router then plug the other end into your computer. If you can get to Google.com or Fixya.com then your internet connection is working.

The default IP address of the wireless router should be 192.168.1.1. This address is used to configure the router. The default password to configure the router is probably "admin" (without the quotes).

Here is a link to a web page that has some pretty good directions on securing your wireless signal.

My son gave me an older computer and wireless Linksys-G model WRT54GS router. I bought my wife a ipod for christmas and in the setup of the ipod it is asking for a password for the router. My son does not...

Reset the router to default....the default username and password is usually on the bottom of the router..then open a web page on your pc and connect the router with a network cable..type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
Use the generic name and password to logon....once logged in, configure username and password and wifi...once setup..save and exit..disconnect and connect router to internet modem...log onto pc and look for your wifi neteork name..cheers

We purchased the Bushnell ONIX200ER GPS from our neighbor and gave it to our son. He has tried to download area maps and founjd that he can not gain access to the site, as the neighbors have/had...

Your neighbor probably has to call the GPS service and cancel his registration before you can do anything with it.

My neighbor is connecting to my router,Iwould like to stop him

For wireless security:
You need to login to your modem and add security, so that you can connect and your neighbour cannot. Unless you have changed your login details, look at the back or underneath your modem. It should tell you what your defualt login is and how to get to it. You normally access your modem using a web browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox etc.) and typing in the address e.g. 192.158.0.1 in the top/address line.
Then you will be prompted for a username and password (see what the sticker on the modem says, e.g. admin and password.
Once inside that menu, look for WLAN or Wireless settings. You can then setup security e.g. WEP or WPA and some other options. Set the security to WPA and choose a password that you can remember. Once you have chosen Done/Apply/OK or similar, you will probably lose your connection. If you then choose your wireless, you will be prompted to enter a password.

The other alternative is, if you have a desktop connected by ethernet to the modem and don't need wireless, you can go into the same menu and switch wireless off.

2wire password

If it is yours then the network password will be printed on the side of the wireless modem/router. If it is your neighbors then your outta luck unless they give you the password.

Disable internal wireless network card

Well I would access the BIOS on his laptop and do 2 things. 1) Enable a BIOS password and set it. 2) If the laptop has a BIOS controllable wireless setting , disable it. But this will disable the wireless TOTALLY.

Otherwise you need talk to your neighbor and have them set a security on their wireless router.

My neighbor is using the signal from my modem. is there a solution to this?

Hi,

Two (2) ways:
1. Use WEP or WPA security key (but that has been known to cause a slowdown);
2. Use MAC filtering which will restrict devices whose MAC numbers are entered into a table of allowed PCs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
